Create a Space
min read - Updated on Oct 28, 2026You create a Space for each channel of feedback your team wants to follow over time, such as call center conversations, social media posts or the answers to an NPS survey. Creating one takes two steps in a wizard: choose the Funnel its feedback will be classified with, then name the Space after its channel. The new Space is empty until you upload its first file, which sets the columns every later file follows.
You start from SPACES in the main menu, where New space opens the wizard. If your account has no Space yet, the page says "Let your feedback grow in one place" and offers Create a Space, which opens the same wizard.

Spaces are available in the Enterprise package. They are also available in Kimola On-Premises.
Every Space is classified with a Funnel, and a team has no default one, so at least one Funnel has to exist before anyone can create a Space. A Funnel is built from custom models, which means the models come first. See Create a Funnel.
One Space holds the feedback of one channel. When you have several channels, give each one its own Space and let them share a Funnel.
Step 1: Choose a Funnel
The first step of the wizard is Funnel: "Choose the funnel your feedback will be classified with. Spaces with the same funnel speak the same language." Each of your team's Funnels is listed with its name, how many models it holds, the language of its analyses and the names of its models. Pick one and click Continue.
Spaces with the same Funnel give their feedback the same themes, the same sentiment and the same Dimension answers, and Kimola writes their texts in the same language. A theme called Claim Filing in a Call Center Space is then the same theme as Claim Filing in a Social Media Space, so the two channels can be read side by side, and Home can show all your Spaces together. If one channel needs a different set of themes or a different language, it needs its own Funnel.
To look at a Funnel's models more closely, Open your funnels in a new tab opens the Funnels page.
A Space keeps the Funnel it was created with, and it can't be changed later. Every file of the Space is classified with the same models, which keeps the first file and the latest one comparable.

If your team has no Funnel yet, the step says You have no funnel yet and "A funnel is the set of custom models your spaces classify feedback with." Click Create one in Funnels, create the Funnel, then come back and start the Space again with New space.

Step 2: Name and Describe the Space
The second step is Details: "Name your space after the channel its feedback comes from." The field suggests names such as Call Center, Social Media and NPS Survey. A Space keeps growing with every upload, so a channel name stays right for as long as the Space lives, while a name like "October export" or "Survey Wave 3" goes out of date with the next file.
When you follow the same kind of channel in more than one place, add what tells them apart, for example "Call Center Germany" and "Call Center France".
The name is how your team finds the Space. It is listed in the main menu right under HOME, on the SPACES list and on Home, and the page of a Customer shows the Spaces their feedback comes from by name.
The Description is optional and holds up to 250 characters. Use it to say where the feedback comes from and how often it is uploaded, as in the field's own example, "Monthly exports of the call center's conversation notes". A teammate who opens the Space then knows what it holds and when to expect new data.

Below the fields, the wizard shows the Funnel you chose with its models. Click Back to choose another Funnel, or Create Space to create the Space. If the Space can't be created, the wizard shows "An unknown error occurred while creating the space."; try again. You can change the name and the description later on the Spaces list: open the menu next to View, choose Edit and click Save. See Manage Spaces.
Step 3: Upload the First File
A new Space appears in the main menu and on the Spaces list, where it shows No upload yet and "Its first file sets its schema". Open the Space and click Upload the first file. The same button is on the Space's Files page, under "Upload the first file of your space".
The first file sets the Space's schema, the structure every later file follows. In the Schema step you choose the Date Column: "Your space grows over time: the date of every record shows its trends and what changed since the last upload." You then choose one or more Text Fields, the columns that hold the texts to classify, and name each one, for example Review; Add another text field adds one more. The other columns of the file are not classified, but you can filter and segment your feedback by them. The Customer Column is optional: choose the column with a customer code, an ID, a number or an email, and every customer gets a page with all of their feedback across your Spaces, or leave it at No customer column.
Before you upload, the SUMMARY shows how many queries the file will use, counted as rows × models × Dimensions. See How to Calculate Queries. Click Upload to add the file. The full steps, and how later files are matched to the schema, are in Add Files to a Space.

Kimola then classifies every text field of the file with every model of the Funnel. While it works, the Space shows New data is being analyzed, and the file counts in the Space only once it is classified. After that, the Space's NPS is calculated, its Signals run, and its Insights are written for the first time ("The insights of this space are being written for the first time."); they appear without reloading the page. Signals joins the Space's menu once the first Signals exist, and Actions once the Space has classified feedback.
If the wrong file went in, you don't need to create the Space again: a file can be taken back with its records. When the last file is taken back, the schema is cleared and the next file sets a new one. See Take Back a File from a Space.
