I have to start out by saying I am a makeup, skincare junkie I love it. However I hadnât heard of the brand Glossier which is my bad but since makeup is my thing I has to listen to this behind the scenes look into the launch of this brand. It was an interesting account of how she launched and started . If youâre interested in how and what it takes to start your own business listen to this.
I love reading biographies but this took me some time to finish. Writing is not the best and there is an overarching bias from the writer against the subject.
I was excited to read this book, but it comes off as snarky. The author has some internal insecurities and chooses to reconcile this by heavily criticizing someone who had the guts to build an empire. I learned nothing and was put off by the jealous tone.
Marisa Meltzer is an established journalist who really delves into her subjects. As someone who grew up in the Into the Gloss/Glossier era, I found this book to be an insightful portrait of both brand and founder and really enjoyed Meltzerâs insight into Emily Weiss. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn more about the beauty industry and/or what it takes to be a female founder/#girlboss.
And was disappointed because it was basically a long article. It is in turn snarky and dull. There was very little insight into what drives Emily as a business person or what in her background accounts for her drive.
It does make the point that it is impossible for women to be flawed in any way and not unfairly scrutinized when they are professionally ambitious.
Very few relevant thoughts, far too many pages, needlessly pedantic.
