I have had a copy of Dale Carnegie's THE ART OF PUBLIC SPEAKING for a few years. I decided to finally read it. I am so glad I did. Although this is the original version, published in 1915, the tips in the book still apply today. A speaker must know their subject. They must speak confidently and with a good pace. The idea is to engage your audience and have them understand and believe everything you say. I also appreciate that these tips not only apply for giving public speeches, but also in everyday conversations like at a general meeting or at a dinner party. As a writer, I also appreciated important tips that I learned in writing, which is to end sentences with a strong word.
I can see why this is required reading in some high school and college courses. It should be. The book provides foundational guidelines for anyone needing to speak in a public setting, which is basically everyone.

As a former professional speaker, this book outlines the kinds of speeches one may give with practical advice on how to craft them.
This book is old. So old in fact, it's in the public domain. Additionally so old that the writing style, the anecdotes, the examples, and the quizzes and activities at the end of each chapter are fairly incongruent with most modern expectations of a book on public speaking. That being said, if you can get through the backwards-writing style, look past the outdated examples and fluff, there are some excellent pieces of advice for public speaking in here. It's really not worth paying actual money for though, especially considering that this book is in the public domain.
No me gustĂł el libro, es muy famoso pero el contenido es muy pobre, nada novedoso. Esperaba mĂĄs de este libro.
School book. Interesting and really great info
This is a classic book, filled with oratory from 100 years ago. The advice is timeless but the book isnât. There are lots of choices out there, and this isnât your best choice. Want to read some lost great speeches? You got them here. Want to speak better? Look elsewhere.
