I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Seth is spot on. No hype, no fluff. Great read.
This was an interesting read on marketing. It seemed geared more to online sales based businesses and I felt a little like it didnât apply to my business which is B2B service. Still, I got enough pearls of wisdom that I will be recommending this to my coworkers.
1. The importance of understanding and connecting with your target audience.
2. The need to create a unique and compelling message to stand out in a crowded market.
3. The value of building and nurturing relationships with customers.
4. The power of storytelling to engage and persuade customers.
5. The concept of "permission marketing," where customers opt-in to receive marketing messages.
6. The idea of creating a "tribe," or a community of loyal customers and advocates.
7. The importance of consistently delivering value and solving problems for customers.
8. The role of creativity and experimentation in marketing.
9. The need to embrace change and adapt to new technologies and trends.
10. The importance of authenticity and honesty in marketing.
Debating sending this backâŚclearly should not have been sold an item labeled this way.
I tend to like Seth Godin, but found this book to be a series of stories, quips, and ideas all loosely centered on marketing as a concept. There are some unique and fresh perspectives in here, and this book is best utilized by a young marketing professional rather than to be a tactical guidebook on how to conduct marketing. For that, I am certain there are more practical and useful books out there. The three stars are because Godin takes his own advice and the book is interesting and easy to read, if nothing else.
Seth never ceases to amaze me. He has a way of explaining things so that you âget itâ. One of my favorite paragraphs in the book is âA lifeguard doesnât have to spend much time pitching to the drowning person. When you show up with a life buoy, if the drowning person understands whatâs at stake, you donât have to run ads to get them to hold onto it.â
