Review of Papendal Hotel in Arnhem, Netherlands

This review is for the Dug Out cafe only. Our daughter stayed at Papendal as part of sports tournament and she was delighted with food and accomodationHowever, we used the Dug Out cafe for lunch twice and a coffee break once. Quite simply, they need more staff. Except for one foul member who we were obviously an convenience to A, all the staff were friendly and helpful, they just could not cope with the workload and keep track of everything. We needed to remind a number of times that we wanted to order and the table was not cleaned as requested and promised. The food, when it did arrive, was very good. In summary, good food and polite service. Just don't expect any of it quickly or reliabily....

We had been looking for a value-for-money accomodation close to the National Park Hoge Veluwe and Papendal was just perfect. A surprisingly big complex they offer golf, sauna, gym and rental bikes. Fantastic breakfast buffet, friendly staff, nice bar and modern (if basic) furnishing of the rooms. Great location for hiking, biking, visiting the Burger's Zoo, Open Air Museum, National Park Hoge Veluwe and Kröller Müller Museum. Fun suprise in the bathroom: check out the packaging of the toiletries!!Minus point: insufficient noise isolation and twin beds (which can be joined though). We were not allowed to use the parking premises directly in front of the hotel (although there was more than enough space) but had to take the parking 500m away - no explanation given, but presumably due to the conferences.

Just back having stayed 3 nights, Staff we're welcoming, room spotless, beds really comfortable, showers are great and powerful. Breakfast, something for everyone and plenty of it weather you want cereal, toast, continental or full cooked, and in with the price of the room great value. Restaurant food was lovely and would recommend eating evening meal here, and bar snacks where very tasty. Free wifi , cycle hire available. Would and will be recommending this hotel. Excellent value for what you pay.

We spent 3 nights at the Papendal Hotel on a long weekend in late April from the UK whilst we visited the Floriade at Venlo and Amsterdam. The hotel is situated in the countryside, surrounded by trees and a golf course and was very quiet when we were there. The rooms were basic but very clean and tidy as was the rest of the hotel. The restaurant was well away from the hotel accommodation wing with big picture windows looking out over the golf course.Breakfast was excellent each day and we ate dinner on one evening which was slowish service but the meal was cooked on demand. All thje staff were very helpful and polite. It is quite a large hotel so our experience was when it was far from busy.

I stayed here for a couple of days in early September. The hotel is in a beautiful forested location, really pleasant surroundings with a good Gym. But, I found that the rooms were average and the mattress was way too soft for me, so not great sleep quality. Breakfast is help yourself, with a really good selection and the dug out bar is also good. The on site restaurant is disappointing with no real atmosphere and a very small choice on the menu, a real shame. The location is great for cycling which the hotel can arrange (10 Euro for whole day - 22 Euro for electric bike) and the Burgers Zoo and De Hoge national park are must visits and both within a leisurely cycling distance. Staff are really good - Zischa on front of house is really helpful and efficient. Somewhere I would return to.

Large clean modern hotel and sporting and conference centre on a large rural site on the outskirts of Oosterbeek. We booked in advance for three nights at a reasonable price and the stay turned out to be above expectation. The buffet breakfast was excellent. The decor throughout was modern and well done. The rooms were not large but perfectly adequate.If we had a gripe at all, it was that the menus were in Dutch (not surprising since we were in the Netherlands!) but considering the number of English speaking tourists who visit the area every year to do the Battlefield tours, it would have made life a lot easier when trying to choose what to eat if there had even been at least a partial translation into English. However, the staff were very courteous and helpful.
