I am not happy with this 4K HDMI capture card.
First, the picture of the item shows a USB-3 connection, and you get a USB-3 cable with the card. However, and yes I missed that in the "About this item" description, the card must be plugged into the USB-2 port, or it will not turn on the port of the capture card. The cable and/or the card does not downgrade from a USB-3 connection.
Second, because of the need to be plugged into the USB-2 the video, although the video shows properly in the review window of OSB, when saved to an mkv or mp4 file is slightly choppy. Not pleasant to watch. None of the OBS video setting options made âanyâ difference.
Third, the card accepts DHCP protected HDMI, and converts the video and sound to the USB output, but audio comes through âonlyâ if the DHCP smart TV is not plugged into the HDMI output. With the TV plugged in, the audio output via the USB port becomes a hiss. I spent many hour with various configurations, including adding a splitter ahead of the capture card. With the splitter I then had the option of 2 HDMI outputs for the TV. One on the capture card, the other on the splitter. Same result with either, the audio turned into a hiss when the TV is plugged in. I would say it has to do with the DHCP protection situation. BTW, the TV always connected properly in both configurations with full video and audio intact. Another BTW, I also made the hardware and cabling changes with laptop powered down and restarted it each time. I would get good audio, but âonlyâ if the TV was not plugged in. That makes the capture card not useful for me. Last BTW, my laptop has full specs per requirements to be compatible with this card and to run OSB on Win 10 Pro.
Would I recommend this card? Likely not if DHCP is involved. My experience is negative.
It's laggy and doesn't record smooth videos at all. My son is constantly complaining that it doesn't work properly. You get what you pay for.
