Location is great! Right by restaurants and bars within walking distance. The room has a refrigerator and microwave which is convenient for left overs for my fellow foodies. For a four star hotel it was disappointing, old carpet, dirty floor in the shower, $60/night parking. Bf was included which was nice and great bf.
I reserved a suite over a month ago with 2 double beds, a sofa sleeper and a city view. Go to check in around 1pm and was told the room wasn't ready to come back after 4, so we went shopping. Come back around 5:30 and was told the room still wasn't available, that they were trying to get people out of the room. I could wait until the room was available within 1-1/2 or take another room on a lower floor. Since we had to get showered and changed for a play, we took the other room. Was told he would comp me $9 on the room and give us late check-out at noon. He said check-out was 10am, when it's 11am, acting like he was giving us 2 hours. The toilet constantly ran, the street noise was crazy loud, the paneling was peeling off of the desk, the sofa sleeper was like sleeping on bare springs, and the TV was on a TV stand that faced a room partition/wall. It didn't pivot at all. No clear view from the bedroom or sitting area. Just a weird layout. Complained at the front desk and the person apologized, said they over booked the rooms and she would comp me $60 off of the room. I would only have to pay $179, excluding taxes, that IS the price of the room when I booked it! Comping $60, the room should have been $119. Still waiting to see any kind of credit on my account. I asked her why didn't they say that Saturday vs lying and saying they were waiting for someone to vacate the room. Again, check-out is @ 11am. My room was never available.
Truly exceptional experience at this property. As a long-time Marriott member, I expect the highest of standards, and this property, and the team involved, pretty much exceeded those standards consistently. From the inital arrival and check-in all the way through to check-out 17 days later, the whole experience was faultless. The team at breakfast, Glenda and Ariel on particular, took great care of guests, were interested in you as an individual, and always had time for a chat. At the other end of the day, The Holloway bar manager, Rob, delivered exceptional service no matter how busy the bar, had a great music selection playing, and is a talented artist to boot.A couple of day-to-day observations. The bar menu is limited but ideal for a late night snack. Breakfast can get a bug repetitive with a limited selection, but well cooked and great for a quick feed before heading to the office. Paper plates and plastic cutlery at breakfast devalues the experience somewhat. I've seen this in other marriott properties and fail to see the benefits either ecologically or economically. The room itself was perfect. A large room with separate spaces for working, eating, chilling, witha kitchenette fir those days where you don't want to eat out. Big comfy bed, decent shower with good quality toiletries, a sofa bed and all the usual amenities. (I do wish US hotels would provide kettles for us Brit tea-drinkers though). The hotel is well-positioned for easy access to dining and entertainment options in RiverNorth and beyond.
