  • Thought Provoking!

It is always great to hear a narrator talk about a subject. Then he equates it to a cuationary tale. He let the listener decide what applies to them. Hopefully you choose things that help your company make that leap. Great Book. Good Luck to all!

  • great concepts, needs an update

I think the concepts uncovered in Jim’s research are fantastic, but reading about companies like Phillip Morris, Fannie Mae, etc in the context of “good to great” when we know what happened with these companies after the publication of this book makes it feel a little stale. I’m genuinely curious if in today’s market, these concepts translate as directly to success for companies.

That said, there’s a lot of core stuff in here that is applicable to a variety of endeavors, so I do recommend the read.

  • Fantastic Read

A very detailed and thorough analysis into what makes organizations successful. You don’t need to be a corporate leader to understand the concepts in this book - if you want to see your organization, team, etc. succeed in the long term from the ground up, then this book is for you.

  • Lots to Think About

I've read this book three times in the last twenty or so years. It always fascinates me. What combination of elements make one company become fantastic while another lags in mediocrity. Collins has a lot of answers, but the ultimate key appears to be what he calls Level 5 leadership—leaders who put the company before their own egos and have the drive to keep pushing for greatness no matter what.

I also find it interesting that many (most?) of these companies crashed and burned after the book was published. Lose your leadership and your vision and you can become mediocre or even go out of business.

It's a fascinating book which I will probably read again in seven or eight years.

  • great insights and learnings

Having read this book, it seems as if all other books on leadership and building companies have just taken their ideas from here.

The book is thoughtful in its approach and what it was trying to achieve. It’s an interesting study of a select group of companies that fit within certain criteria and then an in depth look into their continued success. Very enjoyable
