GREAT BOOK. I'm an instructional designer, and I learned so much from this book.
This book has been extremely useful to me in my work as a corporate trainer.
We often focus so much on “learning to know” that we overlook “learning to do.” Julie Dirksen offers a much-needed corrective, emphasizing that real learning involves behavior change. In Talk to the Elephant, she shows learning professionals how to drive meaningful performance improvement.
…that ONE book could make me a raving fan. I have bought multiple copies to give to fellow educators, and now I read everything she writes.
A must read for anyone who wants to be a part of designing learning to change behavior. In helping the reader to learn, Ms. Dirksen applies the principles she’s advocating in her book.
Julie does an expert job combining behavior change research and actionable design advise in an accessible, engaging way. I would've liked to have it go into more specifics with the COM-B model, but separate resources exist for that. If you are in the L&D world or anywhere adjacent, this is an essential book to have in your toolkit.
