  • This made a better developer

    I constantly come back to this book when I run into a difficult design decision that I need to take. I have noted that the code that I have been writing has been easier to understand and maintain. It's a different take from the more popular clean code style which did not really resonated with me.

  • Buy something else, nothing new here.

    I’d recommend Clean Code (Martin) or Refactoring (Fowler) over this book.

    The preface mentions that no other books on the subject exist. This is untrue, but is probably true from the author's point of view, since it is clear they haven’t read the better books that cover the same topic.

    Helpful thoughts on how to either eliminate or complexity in software systems. Would have enjoyed his thoughts on the complexities involved in designing libraries and frameworks, but he does not address these issues directly

  • Thoroughly engaging and profound ideas a about software design

    I enjoyed reading this book; that is not something I often say about a technical book. This was well written, organized and the distribution of the complicated stuff rather followed the book's thesis - clearly a lot of energy was spent reducing unnecessary complexity in the concepts.
