  • Helpful Conversation Starter

This summer my 6 and 8 year old daughters and I are working through this book. It has started great conversations about positive friendships. My 8 year old struggles to make friends and it gives very concrete steps to make new friends. My 6 year old struggles to be kind to her friends and this has also helped her realize what she needs to do differently. I highly recommend this for any parent looking to help their children develop the next level of social skills. I’m learning a lot too and am thankful to have conversation starters as their friendships are becoming more complex.

  • Single most valuable read for a young one!

This book changed our lives. Seriously! We’ve read 4 times and plan to continue reading every night. It has been incredibly valuable in helping our 9yr old Son learn how to make friends. He asks to read it.

The book teaches little ones all the steps to successfully make friends, then how to keep them. It has great content on how to identify, address and handle bullying as well. Its at a young child’s level of vocabulary and understanding and is also humorous and fun to read.

Seems like society expects them to just know how to act. Much more nurturing and effective to learn these concepts and practice together in a safe place. This is a must have and we’d like to personally thank Dr. Eileen Kennedy-Moore for writing this book!

  • Amazing; it's a roadmap to relating to people for any age

Have now bought several as gifts for other parents and recommended it to every parent I know. Anyone who looks in it buys one. I'M learning things in it. They should base a gradeschool class entirely on this book for every child. I can't recommend it enough. Our son doesn't like to read much on his own and we've caught him twice reading it on his own. He requests it for bedtime. Buy a copy if you have kids, buy a copy if you don't have kids.

    • Easy Read/Easy Application

I like the format; easy to comprehend pictorials/drawings to help emphasize the point being taught. Granddaughter (6 y.o.) understood a lesson/example during the first effort to just flip through the book and stimulate conversation. We are trying to create playground relationships in a new community. Through recollection/reflection/conversation - and then the next day - application. She reported the outcome was a complete hit. Can't wait to try another example.

    • Great tool for kids having trouble making friends

My son is an only child. He is friendly but struggles with interactions with others. My son's teacher mentioned that my son was having issues monopolizing time with his friends which was stressful for them. After reading the relative part of the book that addresses that, he was able to share his friends and make new friends. He even came home and said he used what he learned in the book. A couple of months later my son asked for advice on how to join a group. He felt that kids were looking at him like he was stupid and shutting him out. I broke out the book and read about joining a group. Again he came home the next day and said that he used a tool from the book with positive results. Not only does this book give tools that a child can use in real life, it also teaches them that making friends can be difficult at times for everyone and that is okay. I can't recommend this book enough.

    • Good for younger children

My 12 year old moved to a new school and has been struggling a little bit to connect with other kids. Another mom suggested this book to me and I bought it without looking at it well enough and it is WAY too young for him. I would say this is more appropriate for kids who are 7-8, not 12-13. I think for younger kids that struggle with social interaction it is great. For my son who is just mostly new to the school and learning how to be an almost-teenager, it was very simplistic and childish. He is not particularly mature, but also not immature for his age. Good for younger kids - not late pre-teens or teens.

    • Really Helpful

It was a tough sell to read this to my 7 year old daughter. With some convincing we started reading this book and it's been great! She has laughed at the cartoons and it's sparked great conversation. I'm really glad I bought this on a whim when I found out there has been some issues at school with friends at recess, tattling, etc.

    • Son couldn’t put it down

I have a 7YO who’s brilliant but has always been behind when it comes to social skills. I asked him if he wanted to take a look at this book and he couldn’t put it down. The comic style makes it interesting for him and a lot of the content really seems to resonate with him. He’s already inspired to use some of the tools in this book to make new/better friendships. A must-have!

    • Very Practical Advice About Friendships!

This should be required reading for all kids. Although it’s written in a way that seems to be aimed at elementary school kids (complete with cute cartoon pictures throughout the whole book), most of the information can also apply to teenagers and adults as well. I know many adults who could use the advice in this book! Anyway, great book. Buy it and read it with your kids of all ages.

    • Easy and Practical Ideas

My 7 year old daughter has been having a bit of friendship trouble this year at school. We've been reading through this book a chapter at a time. The first few chapters have really helped her identify where she could improve. For instance, the first chapter talks about being welcoming to new friends and simply saying hello and tips to start a conversation. I really like the way each chapter is introduced and provides practical tips. Each chapter is short enough we can do several of them at a time. Looking forward to finishing this book and setting a good friendship foundation!

    • Huge Help for my 5th Grader!

We hit some rocky times this school year with my little guys long time friend group. He was so upset it was impacting so many aspects of his life. I bought this book looking for a way to help him take some ownership/control of his situation and it has been so helpful! The ideas, examples and cartoon scenarios are spot on, and as he is reading he points out what he is going to try and do better. He is back to sleeping, eating and being his happy go lucky self and this book really drove that. If you aren't sure I encourage you to get his book now! It will help!!!

    • A great way to discuss social skills for mid-elementary kids

I ordered this book after my 3rd grader was having a little bit of trouble making friends. Teachers had mentioned that she is trying to get attention in the wrong ways and it's turning off her classmates. I got this book and hoped that we could read a chapter every night before bed. I thought she might not want to read it, for one reason or another and it might be a tough sell. However, she was very willing to read this with me. We finished chapter one and she begged me to read chapter two. Now she's up in her room continuing to read ahead. I can tell she is going to learn a lot from this book. I love the way it has comics throughout it which help to keep it interesting, with a little comic relief. The pictures and scenarios in the book leave a little room for discussion and can prompt some self-reflection. It's honestly just what we need right now.
