  • Good site but won't be returning...

Pros:- Good location / views.- Nice walk up to White Horse Hill.- Camp fires allowed.- Good pubs around the area.Cons:- Pitches unless at the bottom of the field are a bit slopey (but useable).- Water was cold when we could be bothered to queue for the extremely limited sink/shower facilities. Portaloos were therefore essential but made me gag each time I entered one.- Caravan/camper van/4x4 vehicles seem to be allowed in fields where tents are pitched. Big turn off for us.- The Owner. A very confrontational, condescending manner about the rules that lasts in the memory. (The only reason we won't be returning).

  • Loads of space but limited facilities for so many campers!

Glad I only spent the one night at this Campsite!Yes the option to light campfires in oodles of space andlovely location ( lots of room for children to run about) was one thing but the rather crude un-lit chemical loos on the field sites and severe shortage of shower facilities for the numbers of campers ( 5 separate fields-worth) rather took the shine off the feel of the place. The 'Cool camping' book let us down with this one!

  • Good basic campsite, but hard to find in the dark!

Great location, 20 min walk to the village and an easy climb to the white horse and Uffington fort. I was there in March, no portaloos but was forewarned and pitched close to the wash house. Showers were good, great talking to Marsella. The only negative is that it is very dark, no street lighting, and the signs are not illuminated and almost impossible to see at night. I had expected brown tourist information camping signs, but there were none. Do your navigation in advance. No need for an alarm clock, the cockerels and the dawn chorus will wake you up.

  • Bank Holiday Weekend away

The campsite comprises of large campsite fields separated from a single small campsite that has around 8 electric hook-ups. If you book the campsite with electric hook-ups be warned that this site is the only one with showers and washing up facilities which attracts all the other campers to drive to to use the facilities. The site also has a small tea room which attracts passing trade to call in and use, this then leads to the small field becoming a car park and heavy traffic and is not safe for children or pets to play. Not recommend if you want a quiet getaway.

  • Great local campground which allows fires

Birchcombe Farm is a great, close to home escape for us to take the campervan out, with the kids and dog for a quick last minute night away. The toilets (portaloo's) are a little basic, but for a night they are fine and cleaned regularly. There flushing toilets and showers in the main farm area but the very good tea shop. It can get a bit busy over the bank holiday weekends, at which time a booking is probably advisable.

  • Basic facilities but lovely relaxed campsite

Lovely relaxed atmosphere-no huge lists of do's and dont's or pressure on leaving on your departure date, and they allow open fires with the farmer selling you logs for them from the back of an old landy. Facilities a bit basic with only 2 showers & one washing up point at the farm, which is a fair hike from some of the camping fields. A lot of the fields are reasonably sloping as well, so can be difficult to find a level pitch when busy. Minor gripes though-the beautiful setting and laid back atmosphere more than make u.
