Mixed reviews on 'Cracking the Coding Interview' with some praising its content and others criticizing its outdated nature. While some find it indispensable for interview prep, others suggest alternative resources like LeetCode. • Waste of time

This book is very hard to follow. The author does a terrible job explaining the technical topics and does not provide useful insights.

  • There are better books and better exercises

I picked this up because I heard it was a classic but the problem is that there are better algorithm books (for example Grokking Algorithms) and LeetCode is worlds better for exercises. So sadly that leaves this classic in a slump that does everything worse than alternatives. There’s nothing wrong with the book but there are absolutely more effective options on the market. I’d pass.

  • Bought new, received used

The book I received is in good condition but is clearly not new. At a quick glance through there are multiple pages with pencil marks - some larger than others.

Also a few page dents throughout

  • Book reads like your regular inarticulate engineer with presumptions and lack of clear points

So overall book is really great. The Chapters before the examples are great
Then comes the Interview Question parts for each chapter. Don't get me wrong most of them are great.
But a majority of them seems like it was written by your lead engineer who is inarticulate
Like really? Some of the wording seems off and I couldn't figure what it wants me to do until I copy the solution, go through the given input example and figure out the output by hand. Then you'll have a moment like ohhh that's what they wanted T----T Especially the Chapter 5 for Bit Manipulation. Sometimes I'm like just get to the point most of them are easy anyways. Also the lack or only 1 example for most of the questions is dumb (leetcode has at least 2-3 examples for the output/result)

For any other readers out there there's no other book better than this tbh, which is sad cause it's like a monopoly in terms of business. But still worth a look, but if you're reading this book and got stuck just move on and look at the solutions chapter, go through it, and make sure you actually understand what the question is asking and why the solution is what it is.

I think I got through the book fairly well just because I read the older version and some questions are the same.

Other than that great book. I passed my previous interviews with this book. Some questions are represented in a way how a live interviewer would ask. But the problem is, you can't ask the book to respond back if you have any question for clarification. Dumb

I suggest that author gives more examples for the questions rather than stating one or none at all. I had the older version at some point and I feel those questions were presented better. No clue what happened with this version. My nephew who's 16 months old could present questions better than the author. And he doesn't even speak yet

Older versions of the book was better
