I learned so much from this book. But the biggest takeaway for me was that we need to stop treating disease as soon as we are diagnosed; instead, we need to think preventatively. I was diagnosed with pre diabetes last year, and other than changing a few things in my diet, my doctor suggested nothing. After reading this book, I talked to him again and went over options to reverse my pre diabetes and am now on that path. So a big thanks to Peter and this book!
The difficulty most people face when listening to peers, family and assorted medical doctors, is the simple fact of an overload of misinformation. Which commercial diets to follow (hint: none), what sort of exercises to do (hint: not always a gym), and so on. This exceptional book covers five fixable aspects of the healthy life we would all like to live.
1. Sleep
2. Nutrition
3. Exercise
4. Emotional wellbeing
5. Optimising and managing necessary medications
Tackling these optimising ageing techniques can, depending the age at which we begin this, prevent the worst of diseases such as dementia, cardiovascular events, obesity, diabetes and mental health. If beginning this in our 20s to our 40s, we can prevent many of those insidious diseases. If begun later than our 40 and 50s, we can potentially reduce the final 10 to 15 years of our lives being miserable, overloaded with frailty, and dependency. If nothing else, tackling our overall health can reduce the cost of medical bills â and thatâs also worth considering.
The onus is on each of us to begin a health journey. Peter Attia has written a prescription for transforming our lives, and I have begun to tackle the prescriptions he has written. Highly recommended.
Nice structured book about longevity and health span but not too many new ideas or points. Same as at all other books: mindset, exercises, nutrition, inflammation, prevention...
I bought six of these and have been giving them out. I give them to friends I want to live a LONG TIME. He bases a lot of his narraative on research, not hunches. Sensible ideas for long life WITH good living.
