The Old Cherry Tree is a pub and restaurant in a lovely village in Northamptonshire, offering amazing food, beautiful atmosphere, and great service. The Sunday roasts and desserts are highly recommended, and the staff are friendly and accommodating. The menu features a variety of dishes, from starters to mains and desserts, and the wine selection is perfectly matched. • The best pub/restaurant in Northampton

Came to The Old Cherry Tree on Sunday afternoon and had such an amazing meal with Family. Amazing portions, beautiful atmosphere and a gorgeous setting in a lovely village.

Food was incredible as always, a great range of cocktails and tasty gins too!

  • Excellent food - real gem

    Absolutely fantastic food and service.

Booked for a 60th birthday surprise for my husband for a group 13 people and the staffs organisation was flawless from start to finish.

Food was amazing - tasty, well cooked and plenty of it - all meals came up...at the same time and hot (and have been to plenty of places where this doesn’t happen for such a large group) & waiting staff are attentive happy , which made the visit even better.

Desserts were delicious and huge portions too - and those who struggle to finish were given theirs to take home - bonus!

Could not fault one single thing and can’t wait to return for another meal.

Thank you to Andy and your team - what a great place you have - a real gem of Northampton.More at the same time and hot (and have been to plenty of places where this doesn’t happen for such a large group) & waiting staff are attentive happy , which made the visit even better.

  • Has an identity crisis

This place needs to decide whether it’s a pub or a restaurant. Yes you can be both, but the clientele need to be separated. I didn’t appreciate sitting down to a meal with four lager-louts on the next table. This is just not acceptable, particularly...given the eye-watering prices charged for the food. I have paid less at Michelin starred restaurants. I don’t mind paying for exceptional food and great ambience but this was neither. The food was perfectly acceptable but that’s all.More given the eye-watering prices charged for the food. I have paid less at Michelin starred restaurants. • Love this little pub but….

We hadn’t been to this great little pub for quite some time but then heard it has changed ownership, so we booked our table to go with friends.

We enjoyed a lovely meal. I had a fish curry, which was very nice. The others really...enjoyed their food too. Staff were friendly and the whole place was bustling with a vibrant atmosphere.

So, a few weeks later, we went back with family. Again, it was very good. We enjoyed the food and hospitality.

We raved about the pub to friends and neighbours. The food was good, the pub is quaint and steeped in history and is nestled down a tiny little lane in this quiet little village and has a small car park.

So we chose this restaurant again for New Year’s Eve, however we were very disappointed with our meal. It was early in the evening so wasn’t overly busy at that time, but it was the first time we’d eaten there in the evening as we normally go at lunchtimes.
My starter of scallops was beautifully presented & very good but my scampi was no better than a supermarket brand. It small, little flesh and definitely not like the scampi I’d enjoyed on a previous occasion when It had been much bigger pieces, chunkier, full of fish and home made.
Hubby had pâtÊ, which was good. This was followed by fish and chips, however the fish was dry.
For such a special occasion we were deeply disappointed.

Our most recent visit was for lunch with a friend last Friday.
She chose to have the chefs special of the smoked pheasant. Sadly she found the meat to be quite tough although the flavours were good. This dish was ÂŁ26.
I had the wild mushroom and chestnut wellington with kale and a jus but I too was disappointed with my meal. The pastry wasn’t as light and crispy as I’d have liked and the plate lacked colour and presentation. The flavours just weren’t to my liking and the dish was a not inexpensive price of £24.
Having said this, my husband had a burger which was very good. Beautifully presented and was really tasty. I think his burger was around ÂŁ16.

We will be going back to The Old Cherry Tree, but not until they change their menu in March. Paul the manager, told us that the menu changes every quarter.

To reiterate, this pub restaurant is a great little find. Great atmosphere, lovely, helpful, friendly staff. The manager Paul is a jolly chap but the food, in our opinion, can often be great but can also be very average/disappointing for the price.

I have still given this establishment 4 stars but would be at least 4.5 stars if the food was, in our opinion, more consistently good.

I hope the management takes this review as constructive criticism as it is one of our favourites and we look forward to returning in the spring.More enjoyed their food too. Staff were friendly and the whole place was bustling with a vibrant atmosphere.

    • Burns night 7 course taster supper

My husband and I attended the Burns night supper for the second year running at The Old Cherry Tree. This year they did a 7 course taster menu, which we decided to add the wine flight to at a little extra cost. Well we were...not left disappointed!!! The food was exceptional, plentiful and delicious, the wine selection, which had been specially selected to accompany the food was perfectly matched with a sherry to finish off with the dessert. The live bagpiper added a touch of authentic to the evening and we left feeling very full, satisfied and in high spirits after a very pleasant and enjoyable evening. I must add the service was excellent and compliments to the chef were made for the thought, preparation and care that you could tell had gone into every dish, a most exceptional night.More not left disappointed!!! • Consistently good

Consistently good. We arrived to a warm and friendly welcome. No rush or pressure to order our food, therefore we were able to enjoy a pre-dinner drink. I enjoyed scallops to start, sea bass fillet and chocolate orange brownie for dessert (which was served warm)....My husband enjoyed Brixworth pate, fish and chips (which I have to say is the best fish and chips I’ve had from a pub) and cheeseboard. The manager was very accommodating and moved us to a nook with our own log burning fire (due to the temperature dropping in the restaurant) where we enjoyed our final course. All meals were delicious but the stand out courses were our mains and the chocolate orange brownie! A very pleasant evening 10/10!More My husband enjoyed Brixworth pate, fish and chips (which I have to say is the best fish and chips I’ve had from a pub) and cheeseboard.
