When i was reading this book, I was going through anxiety and fear of death. If any is in same situation as me, please dont read this book. Other than that the book is very informative.
Excellent reading about how your body reacts how your emotional mental health shows up in you physical health
I received this book and had difficulty reading the small print. Hunted down another copy printed in the U.K. that was a used copy with larger print.
Informative read. Keep an open mind while reading this book, you may be able to "connect the dots". Western medicine seems to operate on the premise that mind and body are separate and are treated as such. Definitely recommend.
What a great read and so intriguing. Peoples real life stories and experiences are my favorite kinds of reads so if you are the same as me, this is so worth it!
The research presented in this book is much the same findings presented in "The Body Keeps The Score" by Dr Van der kolk. After reading both, The Body Keeps The Score seems to outline WHAT happens in the body from a more clinical/medical perspective and "When the Body Says No" seems to explain HOW it happens in most people's lives. This book is compassionate and presents the options of healing without prescriptions, if one can look honestly at their own past and present mindsets.
A wonderful book. I have worked for over 20 years in the field of emotional development and am continuing to undertake study to remain aware of newest developments in the field of mind-body-spirit connection. Gabor Maté's contributions have captured my interest for their ability to cut through traditionally influenced views and instead focus on the core truth of being a 'whole' human being. 'Quality Time' with our children does not provide them with a balanced view of relationships, it just provides a panacea for the conscience of a parent without priorities. Workaholism is not an addiction, it's a survival strategy keeping a person away from what they truly fear. Dr. Maté is a genuine and realistic voice for these times where we need a wake-up call. Our current pandemic is the cause of life disruption, ill health, damage and death in numbers far greater than could ever be attributed to Covid. Our current life threat is chronic stress and WE have the ability, the means and capability to no longer accept it as a way of life - our life. In the time it takes to read this book, you can gift yourself and those who matter to you, years of healthy living.
Plan ahead to receive this book on a day when rain is not falling, else the paper envelope and ignored delivery instructions will modify this masterpiece by making it damp and quite bent out of shape. It looks 'stressed' ! What arrived today is a visual representation of what we can become when we don't pay attention, heed the signs, and take appropriate action to ensure our well-being.
The books is equal parts science and psychiatry. Carefully and thoughtfully written, Dr. Maté guides his readers to understand that Western medicine and American culture have led us away from seeing health as binary: mental health vs. physical health. Using scientific studies and his own experience, Dr. Maté aptly demonstrates that the two are inextricably linked.
It has forced me to take a good look at stressors and how my external environment impacts me internally.
Highly recommend!
Muito bom
Timely delivery.
I highly recommend
The book is in good condition and it's good
This book is the perfect explanation to understanding one's mind/body connection, especially to those who are brand-new to the topic! It reads very informative, without being overly academic, and has both anecdotal and scientific information to support the education it provides. This is one I'll be re-reading again and again.
Great author, easy to read, brings a good perspective on health and stress as a risk factor.
A must read!
Loved this book
Will help you too much to understand about ADHD
300 pages and not readable. The print is so small it's almost a straight line.
Smh
Ordered this new because it was the cheapest option. Honestly should have just ordered the used one because it arrived with the cover bent. Not a huge deal, but like…c’mon guys.
I discovered Dr Gabor Mate by chance on Youtube and became fascinated by his work so decided to buy this book to learn more. (Dr Mate has recently been in the news as the therapist who did the live therapy session with Prince Harry.) He is a soulful looking man who speaks slowly and makes everything understandable. Trauma occurs in different ways to so many people and Dr Mate illustrates how these traumas can take a toll on our physical and mental health. He is not talking about everyday life stresses but 'hidden' stress, ie trauma. It will help you in your life and help you to understand others. Read it if you are interested in such matters.
Easy to read
A present for a friend. She loved it.
This book is a must read for everyone.. I was going through so much the last few years and spinning out of control..
the stress in my life was through the roof, with constantly high cortisol.
This book helped me anchor myself and seek out methods to festrede and bring back the joy.. and also fix my issues with my relationship to my family, partner, friends and most of all … to myself.
So much wisdom presented in a scientific way, it gave me hope in the future
Helps me understand how and why my body or brain reacts the way it does, to help me heal
Very readable and enlightening. Contains valuable insights about the potential impact of chronic stress without seeking to apportion blame. Using accessible examples, he makes links between disease and both "major" traumas, such as abuse, childhood neglect, death of a parent/sibling etc, but also from seemingly "minor" habits such as an inability to say no, lack of boundaries, overwork... Maté makes a strong case that repressed emotions (especially anger) are inextricably linked with illness. At the end he sets out 7 habits necessary for health. I would have loved more detail in these but found the book excellent nonetheless.
The print in this book is atrocious. The tiniest of writing with faint ink. If your sight is bad give it a miss!
Excellent book at affordable price.
I love educational books, this one of those that everyone should read at some point in life.
The book is amazing. Learned alot about myself. Only complaint that I would give is the print is to small. Other then that it is a great book by great author.
