  • Very helpful advice for new and experienced coaches

    When I started coaching youth soccer it was all about X's and O's. It took a few seasons but eventually I realized the core of coaching was in connecting to the players and working with them in a more holistic fashion. This book details some essential ideas for how to coach girls that will help make those connections allowing you to go beyond teaching technique and tactics (still needed, but only part of the equation). Wish I had read this when I started coaching, but still learned a lot and would recommend to both new and experienced coaches.

    Alison Foley and Mia Wenjen did a wonderful job on informing us how to coach female athletes. As a soccer and basketball coach, a mom of two female athletes and a former collegiate D1 soccer player, I learned a great deal about the power of positive coaching especially in the female population. There's a sport psychology to all of this and these authors were able to identify it and teach it to us in this book. Thank you Alison! Thank you Mia! You have made me a better coach.

  • Great read!

    Love that this book focuses on the development of female athletes and team building. I have two daughters and between them they play volleyball, soccer, tennis and crew. One re-occurring theme is the challenge in building team synergy and this book has great suggestions on how to do that. Every coach should read this book!

    Definitely recommend this as a great read for anybody who has a daughter involved in competitive sports; truthfully I'm finding it very interesting for myself as well--as an adult woman who is starting out in a competitive sport -- but later in life.

  • Dads: Get this book.

    Wow, I wish I had this book years earlier. I coach boys and girls recreational basketball for the past five years and this book is spot on. Buy it and you won't have to learn the hard way. Quick read, very practical, lots of good advice.
