In my opinion this is an overly in depth look into how the author gathered all the info, which could have been five pages. But then we wouldnât have a book. If thatâs what you want then this is for you.
I like the topic. I like that that she researched and spoke with people about this. However, this is really boring in my opinion. We were introduced to too many people and the delivery was just too drawn out. I wanted facts but I didnât want to read several pages just to get to the point of one fact. At times I even lost track of what I was reading because it was too detailed and not in a good way.
Outdated information but still a relevant topic and I really liked the quantity of information in the book. I wouldâve liked more information about the types and uses of various fabrics and blends.
Excellent book on what needs to change in the fashion industry and how consumers need to change their buying habits. Full of statistical facts, blunt, and to the point. A book for consumers as well as those studying economic inequity and environmental damage.
I purchased this book in order to complete a project for my AP Language & Composition class. I found it to be a very informative book. I recommend watching The True Cost, directed by Andrew Morgan, in addition to reading this book in order to fully grasp the situation regarding fast fashion. The book has definitely opened my eyes and made me question about shopping at these fast fashion brands.
I'm in the business of buying fabric and clothing and costumes but this book was a real game changer. We were already doing a great deal of re-purposing but having lived through the garment industry since the 70's, I see how our industry has changed in the last 50 years. I asked everyone I work with to read it as well - and I'm being so much more mindful of where the garments I purchase are made and what they are made from. A MUST READ!
Good read if you want to know the damaging effects the fashion industry has on the worlds people, land and economy.
Overdressed is a bit outdated at this point, so I would look forward to an updated copy.
Excellent research on clothing trends and how outsourcing has affected quality and pricing of "fast fashion" trends. Well written. Fun read. Makes you think about buying fewer quality clothing items to wear longer than buying numerous cheaply made items that don't last. The history of manufacturing is intriguing. I'm cleaning out my closet today!
The information is a little dated at this point, but it has things that consumers at every level need to hear about the fashion industry. Very damning for a lot of popular brands.
This book is about 5 years old but it's as true today as ever. It answers the questions of why there's such a proliferation of inexpensive clothing, where it comes from, and the economic forces behind the flood of cheap goods showing up in our fashion outlets. Read this book and you'll want to clean out your closet.
This is a great read if you want to learn about the evolution of the garment industry, Ms. Cline has done lots of research and gives you an insiders glimpse of why our clothes are so cheap in our disposable society and we can buy a t-shirt for less than $5. Our closets are full because our society buys into quantity over quality - its big business consumerism. This is really a terrific book and I highly recommend it if you want to learn why we wear the clothes we do!
