However, some readers found the book repetitive and criticized the author's political and left-wing ideology. • Boring and closes minded

My entire family tried to read this and the first section is great! Then the rest of the book is shaming people for how they were born and as a woman I was annoyed because the author made it seem like we were less-than and needed extra help in the world to succeed. No one in my family finished this book

  • Able to clarify and help without inducing guilt and shame

Crazy helpful book. New insights ( to me) on nearly every page. Learning about healthy anger is invaluable. Authenticity and agency are bedrock concepts I have not really understood as I have needed and really are revolutionizing my journey though life.

  • Essential Read

I love this book and Mate himself

He goes into great depth about the traumas of our toxic works where people’s essential needs are unmet through generational and societal issues. Also pathways to wholeness. Wonderful thank you

  • Self Loathing Anti-Semite

After reading Daniel’s tweets, I will never read or recommend his books again. For those suffering from trauma he has done nothing but hurt Jews reeling from the October 7, 2023 terrorist attacks on innocent women and children. It’s horrifying they they’re authority figures on trauma. Their publisher and Amazon really need to take a look at their Twitter accounts.

  • Life changing book

Book covers many topic, sites many creditable studies, and gives personal accounts of childhood traumas and how they surface in our adult lives. Some our obvious, like physical and sexual abuse but others not obvious like connections in the 1st yr of life. This is a must read for anyone on a journey towards wholeness. Definitely recommend to physicians or anyone in the medical field!! I give the book a 10 out of 10 rating.

  • Political not Medical

When an MD quotes Karl Marx (repeatedly), calls David Brooks a "conservative," and lauds Noam Chomsky as an intellectual "luminary," you know his book is more about politics than healing. Take out all the politics and left-wing ideology and the book would about 1/3 of its length. The mind/body/health aspect is interesting and important. Unfortunately, left-wind ideology drowns out whatever medical/healing message the author was trying to convey. He lost me at Marx. Is he really unaware of the fact that Marxist totalitarian governments killed well over 80 million humans in the 20th century? Living in Marxists societies is not exactly good for ones mental or physical health, Doctor...

  • Very informative but too long

I decided to read this book because I listened to one of the author’s podcasts and liked what he had to say. This book was very informative but the length of it took away from its value and effectiveness I think. It was a lot repetitive and seems that he didn’t need to spend so many pages making his points. That said, it was thought provoking and I appreciated the comprehensive footnotes citing many different sources if one wants to read more in-depth about certain topics.
