What is a Keyword?

2 mins read - Created on Oct 07, 2025

A Keyword is a word or phrase that tells Kimola what to look for while collecting data for your feeds.

Keywords act as filters — they help the system decide which online conversations, reviews, or posts are relevant to your brand, product, or research topic.

Example

Adding “Bitter Chocolate” collects all mentions with that phrase. Adding “healthy snacks” captures related content across supported platforms.

Why Keywords Matter

Keywords determine what kind of data Kimola gathers for you.
A well-defined keyword strategy ensures your feed remains relevant, clean, and easy to analyze.

With the right keywords, you can:

  • Collect only relevant mentions about your brand or competitors.
  • Reduce noise from unrelated conversations.
  • Improve the accuracy of sentiment and theme analysis.
  • Optimize your feed’s performance and data quality.

How Keywords Work in Feeds

When you create a feed, you define one or more keywords. Kimola collects posts containing them and saves each as a record with details such as channel, language, keyword, date, and source.

Example

If your keyword is “Apple Watch”, your feed will include user reviews or discussions where that phrase appears.

Keyword Matching

Kimola uses exact and phrase-based matching to detect keywords in content.
This means that:

  • Keywords are not case-sensitive (“Apple” and “apple” are treated the same).
  • You can use multiple words or phrases (e.g., “collagen drink”).
  • Special characters and stopwords are automatically handled to ensure better matching.
Note

Use clear and specific keywords (e.g., “marine collagen” instead of “collagen”). You can adjust your keyword list anytime in Feed Settings.

Keywords are the foundation of your data collection. Clear, targeted keywords keep your feeds relevant and focused.
