The item and service was amazing, really happy with my purchase, totally recommend Paper Cavallier.
Loved the first in this wedding series and this feels like such a natural sequel to that. The content is as usual bang on, as is the writing and example photos clearly illustrated, driving the points home. The book itself is well produced with a great feel to the cover and made in a perfect size. The example completed photographs are beautiful and you can clearly see the writer has a passion for teaching. Thank you once again Roberto. I can't wait for chapter 3!!
Un libro extremadamente completo , supera las expectativas!!!
I have all of Roberto Valenzuela's books thus far. He is a born teacher and uses his experiences (good and bad) to help the readers improve their photography skills. I've watched many of Roberto's workshops on Creativelive.com as well. If you want to improve your portrait photography skills, I highly recommend this book and his other works.
I've read all of Roberto's books and there are none better for wedding photography. His advice has improved my images as I'm better prepared and more confident I know what to do. Of course you have to apply this information by actually doing it repeatedly and learning from your mistakes as he has.
highly recommended.
Love the book. Very informative!
As a wedding photographer, this entire book is useful to ensure I capture all the important pictures for my bride and groom. In every section there is something I can implement on my next wedding. I will be spending more time studying each chapter to elevate my wedding photography and create a well-rounded album for my clients.
This book is very well thought out and extremely informative with descriptive diagrams and case studies showing the techniques in action. I enjoy how each image has a reference number that can be found in the paragraphs giving an explanation or further instruction. I especially like the flow of the chapters since they correspond to the actual timeline of a wedding day.
Chapter 7: The Ceremony: The Action/Reaction Position Plan (TARPP) was worth the purchase of this book alone. Roberto introduces the reader to a diagram of ten positions a photographer should use to capture different views of the ceremony, bridal party, and important guests. The real-life case studies with wedding images from each position helped to solidify the TARPP in my memory. This chapter will help me develop a strategy to capture all the key moments during the wedding ceremony. I will require all my assistant photographers to study this chapter before assisting me on a wedding day. What I learned from this chapter will take my ceremony images to a whole new level!
Thank you so much Roberto for inspiring me once again.
Roberto is an excellent teacher and photographer of weddings and all things of phototgraphy. This book is very easy to comprehend. Showing different images of what works and what doesnât. This second book is a continuation of the first which has helped immensely.
I got this book yesterday in the mail from Amazon. Let me say.. The Attention to Detail of how this was put together, the discussion of gear, the ceremony, the reception, the process.. It's INVALUABLE. I'm SLOWLY reading every word so I can digest it.
The strengths of this book lie in Roberto sharing his life story and creating that connection with the reader. His analytical style is very in depth as he describes what to do and most importantly WHY and the reason behind it. Most other authors just tell you what to do.
This is the best book I've read by Roberto Valenzuela to date. Buy it and you won't be disappointed.
Well, I read and much enjoyed volume one by this author so I am eagerly looking forward to reading his second volume. From the table of contents looks like a lot involves preparation skills in order to tell the wedding story. First time Iâve seen a chapter called an optional read :-) May be optional but looks absolutely critical for wedding photography: involves how to clean your sensor, having a equipment checklist, and, among other things, syncing all of the cameras youâll be using. For example, you donât want different white balances or picture styles among the photographs. I never would have thought of that! He also discusses the when and how of hiring an assistant. I bet that would be more helpful than we can even imagine on a wedding shoot. The author says it is not an option (unlike the first chapter :-), but is crucial to success. He discusses one instance in which not having an assistant could mean no photos for the unhappy couple! He posits the example where a photographer sprained her ankle and was completely incapacitated for the rest of that day. Valenzuela is right-what in the world do you do then? You need an assistant.
The author uses several case studies in teaching us how to prepare the bride and groom. I love that he refers to certain people in the wedding as Emotionally Valuable Persons (EVP)! For example, the groomâs father. He places his assistant in front of the subject of the photo to give direction while he stands to the side taking the actual photograph. Valenzuela tells us we get more candid shots when the photographer is out of the direct view of the subject and I bet heâs right. Along the way he mentions a tip that I use in my family shots, too. That when youâre photographing candid shots look for reactions. I find I get the best pics that way. He discusses this again in the section on group photos-have people react to each other or get candid shots of it when youâre photographing the group.
He spends much of an entire chapter on what kind of backgrounds to use, when and why. For example, do you use a monochromatic background or a pattern background? I love that he discusses that because I canât say that Iâve ever seen this talked about in a wedding photography book before. In his section on how to photograph the wedding party he gives a list of clichĂŠd poses that we should avoid - some of those poses I have seen among my familyâs wedding photos :-), including pics I took. He next describes the four types of wedding party group photos, which I found entertaining and helpful. He does suggest that you always take the traditional photos first because, whether they know it or not, the bride and groom will want those. Then you can choose among the other three categories. His many photographic illustrations of the group photos I found very instructive.
In a section on photographing the bride and groom he talks about âindividualized effective stimuliâ. Well, a mouthful! But what he means is that the photographer needs to set the mood. For example, if you want lots of positive energy, then you need to put that energy out there. He says this section is important and I agree. Not just for weddings, either. I much enjoyed his section on unaware portraits because, in a wedding I was photographer at, the best group shots I got were when people forgot I was shooting.
And then we come to the final part of the wedding: the reception. The photographer says that one of the most important things to do is to please the wedding coordinator :-) Thatâs because the wedding coordinator often recommends which photographer to use!
In conclusion, the second volume was well worth writing and certainly worth my reading. The author covered a lot about preparation and strategies in this volume and together the two volumes are probably all you need to shoot a wedding in the best way possible.
