  • Good large storage or backup drive drive 6GB and 8GB in last 3 years.

WDC blue is my go to drive for bulk storage and I've never actually had a failure WDC in 25 yrs. 2x drives
6 GB and 8 GB. 6 was SMR and 8 CMR (good). Shingled is a special trick that extends size per platter with a penalty to some VERY WRITE intensive times. A drive under 80% full with quiet times will mostly never have the issues. Theory is --- data is written to drive in SPEED optimized way and later when the drive is quiet data is Packed in the SMR ultra dense magnetic format. SERVER don't have that quiet time. Raid array magnifies the effects when you have small delays for housekeeping on 5 drives all misaligned in time.

  • Bewarn: item is non-returnable

Attempted to return and meet with this statement: This item is non-returnable, but you may contact Customer Service to request a refund or replacement.

Be advised this drive is uses Shingled Magnetic Recording (SMR) that is being disguised as Advanced Format Drives (AFDs); this format makes it inferior compared to Conventional Magnetic Recording (CMR). Very deceptive WD without warning the customers.

  • Noisy drive

Loud hard drive, sounds like a constant airplane propeller in motion. Prior drive is same model and size. Prior to it failing was very quiet barley audible. New one is loud, loud, loud. Maybe just bad luck on this one.
