I first purchased muslin for quilt backing because of economy, but I've found this product to not only add convenience, but it adds a bit of class to the quilt too. The fabric is 60" wide, which, for the quilts I make, eliminates the need for me to piece the back for the lap quilt or smaller throw quilt sizes. Once the quilt is washed, it gives a soft feel like a vintage quilt.
OK, ,so I thought I would take a chance after I read the mixed reviews, which looked like people were actually receiving two different products. As it turned out, the "nays" have it right. It said "soft" and 'for draping" right on the front of the package..... There is NO WAY this is suitable for "draping" if you are meaning garments for sewing projects., not even after washing to remove sizing. It is heavy and stiff, about halfway between muslin and canvas. If you want to drape furniture or floors before painting and use it as a not-too-cost-effective drop cloth, have at it. It was much too stiff to even consider for quilt backing. Very disappointing!! VERY DEFINITLEY NOT AS ADVERTISED BY THE MFG !!
Because I was shorted a foot, I had to spend more to replace on solution for my backdrop project. Great muslin, but what a pain!
Some reviewers complained that they were short changed wrt quantity. I’m happy to report that it appears I received the full 10 yards and the quality looks ok
This muslin has a slightly chemical smell to it, but is otherwise good for fitting garments.
I love that you can purchase 10 yards. I was able to make 8 quilts. My quilts are large 40x40 fabric is easy to sew
The fabric is ACTUALLY COTTON... YEAH!!!!
Minimal shrink when washed & dried. Quality seems pretty good, okay for the price point advertised. I'm wincing only a little at the extra I paid due to lying listing info. Very light, fine, airy (think batiste)...but this listing is a wreck.
To my purposes it's doesn't have quite enough.... Body... for pattern making muslin.
I like the fabric itself - actually have been looking for just this weight/weave of cotton - FOR COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PURPOSES than why I placed this order.
This should work well for sheer, lightweight type curtains, shadow applique, shadow embroidery. (See photo) Delicate hand embroidery, eyelet work, gauzy feel for apparel applications without the puckering.
*BUT* When I order a specified size/quantity for a specified price, that is what I expect to receive. Amazon & their vendors really need to learn & police their fabric terms, labeling/listing practices, etc.... And if you are going to sell fabric measurements matter!
The width received is actually 56" (NOT within the 2" grace range to be labeled as 60") . A customer should be able to figure that they'll get at least a usable 58" across after washing from fabric listed 60" wide.
The length (I triple checked) is only 9 yards (& 2 inches). The 10 yards is clearly stated all over the item listing & my order info. This is unacceptable practice.
Apparently there's no simple, direct link to contact about this without creating a return. I will be spending the time & calling Amazon.
I like this fabric & will use it. just want my bill adjusted to reflect the merchandise actually received!
Listing says 10 yards, I only got 8.7 yards. It also wasn't a full 60 inches. Fabric seems fine, but the listing is misleading and the seller must know. It's not like it's a couple of inches off. It's more than a yard short. It totally changes the price per yard.
Perfect for apparel sewing using as a mock, nice weight.
I bought this to make a practice pa'u skirt for hula. It does the job. Good material and seems like it will last a long time.
