I'm shocked that no one else feels like I do about the battery life. It was always tremendously worse than my previous Kindle but still pretty reasonable compared to other chargeable devices. However, now that it's 2 years old the battery level drops to 25% a day or two after I've charged it. I used to be able to go for weeks since I only read for about a half hour or maybe an hour every night. But now I'm charging it every other day. I find it a real pain. Plus it's been quirky since I first got it. It freezes and must be rebooted frequently. I would think mine is defective, except that when I started having problems, I went to the reviews and looked at the ones that specifically mentioned battery life. I was stunned that people are rating this thing with 4 and 5 stars when they are having the same battery issues and freezing issues I'm having. I find this unacceptable compared to my previous Kindle. I guess the game is to get me to buy the next version and hope that they've made improvements. I know no one at Amazon will care, but I had to put this out there just to help a few others like me who are wondering if their Kindle is "abnormal" or if this is the standard to which Amazon has fallen.
I bought the Kindle to supplement my physical books and only really use it when I travel, which isn't much nowadays. My Kindle randomly stopped charging and despite cleaning out the port and trying various chargers, nothing works. It has such a short warranty and it's kind of sad this entire product is now useless and it's under 3 years old. Books still win, I guess!
Battery life short, have to reboot daily because it refuses to wake up until I do. Difficult (if even possible) to organize my books. Ads take place of where my books should be. Very disappointed.
Page turning is very laggy as well as referencing footnotes or other notes. Often it will not turn on even when fully charged and suddenly there is an update but there is no notice or warning so you are sitting there wondering why it wonât turn on its only 2 years old so am not willing to buy a new one.
After 13 months of light use (only at home) and being well cared for in a case my Kindle touch screen broke. I am devastated and frustrated.
I purchased this version in August 2022 knowing that it was an "old" model. However, it was sold as a new item. Over the past month, it has begun to lock up during use. It also states that it needs charging even when the battery shows a 100% charge. Any electronic device that dies within a year is basically e-waste. Shame on you, Amazon, for selling effectively throw-away devices. Yes, I will send it to household hazardous waste for proper disposal. I won't buy another Kindle and I will advise everyone to look elsewhere for a Kindle reader.
After two years (are we to expect lifespan to only be few years?), a screen failure caused bands of lines to appear permanently while on so that when you are reading, the bands appear over/under and above the text (very distracting). No support after 3 months from purchase.
I just upgraded the firmware on my network access point but didn't upgrade the security, still at WPA2. However the Kindle from 2021 no longer sees nor can it log into the network. Internet reseearch suggests it is due to it being unable to work with WPA3 but I don't have that. And no other device is having trouble connecting. None of them even noticed the change. So no more access to the Kindle store and no way to send books to the device. It all has to be done by wire now. Not sure I would buy another of these after this.
My first Kindle died shortly after the warranty expired. It simply refused to charge. Amazon offered me a replacement at a reduced cost. Now the replacement has suffered the exact same fate. Iâm not interested in a third. Iâll read Kindle books on my iPhone or iPad instead.
I bought this for more storage.
Since the day I got it, it been nothing but trouble.
Wonât Download or update over Wi-fi or cellular.
After returning it 5 times for trade, the warranty expired. Supposedly told me a lot of people had issues with hotspots & public wi-fi connectivity. The next versions (oasis etc) have connectivity issues too.
I dumped it in a pile of junk, and use my old Paperwhite 7th Gen instead.
