This is a TOURIST TRAP.We got ripped off!At the door, there was no price list. The young lady at the counter used an old-fashioned calculator and she talked very quickly so I couldn't quite follow what she said. She calculated 350 TL per adult and 300 per child. We were with 4 kids so we had to pay 1900 TL. But I remember that it should be a lot cheaper.I commented on that and she mentioned the word "tourist". And that internet was wrong and that the true price was on the website. The kids were cranky and tired and wanted to go in. I was distracted by that, so we paid and went inside.Inside, it was quite disappointing. It is not interactive at all. Only very old toys from various regions of the world, but mostly Germany, France, Japan and the United States. I think some toys were even labelled wrong (Dutch flag but labelled 'France').Once we went through, I went back to the counter and asked what the deal was with the admission money because we overpaid. She said it's all on their website, that tourists have to pay more. I had no internet connection so I couldn't check. She was persistent. I called it very rude, a rip-off. She didn't care.Back at the apartment, I checked and it should've been 690TL. We paid about tripple. Don't go here! it's not even worth 115 TL. Especially not for teens. Our children (2 boys, 2 girls, age 10 to 14) were divided between boring and "okay-ish".
If you are a foreigner be ready to pay 500 lira for two!Its really small and hard to be reached. Doesnt worth your time at all
Having been to istanbul a few times i wanted to do something not on the main tourist map. I had a bit of a problem finding the museum but i think that was my sense of direction as its very near the train station. I think this is perhaps more for adults who will love the memories it stirs, that said there was a group of school children there at my visit and going by the chatter i think there were really enjoying it!perhaps it baffled them as to the toys of old. There is a wide variety of toys to see and well worth the visit.
Visiting this museum is one of the top things to do on the Anatolian Side of Istanbul. The collection is very rich and the display is very attractively organized. As a young person, I felt like I was travelling in time. I thank Sunay Akın for collecting all these valuable pieces and founding this museum!
It was a time-pass visit and very entertaining. So many different types and includes mechanised ones as well. I loved it.
Amazing, great museum. Clould spend hours looking at these toys. All type of toys you can find here. Fascinating how much attention is paid for details
Wonderful place with lots of amazing and interesting things . I would love to visit it again and again.
It is one of the sights I have always wanted to visit. For some reasons, I went there with my kid. We loved it. There are some activities as well like plays or painting workshop. The cafe serves boutique patisseries I think. They look and taste healthy. The atmosphere is limited but cosy. The decoration deserves credit.
We couldnt cover it in our days but in the last day and before going to the airport, i agreed with the driver to pass to this museum which i wasnt expecting it will be that much attractive for me and my kidsThe tickets are Adults 18 LT and Children 12 LTIt is 4 floors museum located in an old building which is well arranged and managed It consist of very old toys collections which attracted me, my wife and kids and they started shooting pictures here and there They have small coffee shop as well a very neat and clean toilets I really recommed to visit this place
the toy museum was really nice. it was amazing to pick up so many toys and protect them by this time. for me napoleon was very surprised. I never expected to see in Istanbul
Istanbul is full of first rate museums....including the city itself. This year was my fourth visit, and the woman who ran my hotel told me about it, gave me directions, and the highest recommendations. She was right. I spent several hours there climbing to each floor...totally entranced with the collection of toys from all over the world. They are beautifully displayed in a lovely building that includes a very good snack bar as well as a helpful staff who all seem to enjoy being there as much as me. It was much too much for one visit, and I was leaving Istanbul the next day. There are windup toys from Germany and Japan, dioramas from America, things from everywhere..including scads of teddy bears and ancient Disney mice, toy submarines and model planes from a hundred years ago. I cannot recommend it too highly. It's on the Asian side of the city. Public transit there was too confusing, so I took a cab from the ferry. It was about five dollars including tip each way...and well worth it.
We visited this museum with 2 little kids (3.5 and 5.5 y.o.) while staying in Istanbul. Took some time to find it, but with the help of nice passerby, we got there. Nice museum, with several floors filled with toys from hundred years ago to most recent. All toys are exhibited behind glass displays, so while it's interesting to explore and read about the history of the toys for adults, it gets a bit boring for little kids. An overall very nice and unique experience, more geared towards adults or older kids who can read.
Magnificent place to go to the past. You can find toys belongs to 1820. International toy museum, to go your childhood ‘s memories. Cafe and museum shop is really nice and find different things. This place is for you and your child as well.
The collection of toys is well curated and laid out in a beautiful building. When I went I wasn't expecting much but it blew me away. Really fun!
I really liked that place.. you can see many cultures via toys during the history.. founder of this museum Sunay Akin also a good story teller build a perfect museum based on stories:)
I am not into to toys in general, but love the history and collectables. Although most from Germany, but there is no doubts that this museum has very nice and old collections of old toys. I love most the Charlie Chaplin doll and those very old Japanese girl dancers. However, the glass display is very old and in bad shape it need to be replaced, spsce is very narrow. Toys are not properly arranged, just few notes here and there. How i wish it was arranged time era wise, or functional wise so its easy for tourist to know. The location is very hard to find also. By end, if you visit nearby, you should pass there, you will love it as you feel there like a Kid.
not just for kids but also for grown ups, this multi level museum is filled with thousands of toys from around the world. we loved it big time.
A small multiple floors historic building that contains thousands of collectible rare toys that can be a heavenly spot for someone who is interested or anyone that want to travel back to his childhood.
Wonderful place full of toys from the whole world, it was a real joy for kids & parents as well. The museum located at the Asian side of Istanbul in a 3 stories villa, everything was great but unfortunately the prices at the gifts shop was incredibly expensive.
toys are not just for kids just like that this place is not either. it's not a museum actually, collection of toys. u will definitely find something remind you about your childhood. go there and travel to your childhood and take lots of pics, of course
Not just for kids also intresting for adults. One of the must see places of Istanbul. Strongly Recomended
Small private museum of excellent collections.Kids will enjoy it.Small coffee shop available.it is on a tiny street not very far from public transport. You will need to walk abit though.
This toy museum is not only for kids, it also appeals to adults. Located on a residential neighbourhoud on the Asian side, it's quite away from traditional tourist destinations. But if you have time and if you happen to be on the Asian side of the city, it might worth a visit. There are parking lots in front of the building but you have to let the concierge know you are there for the museum so that he opens the locks, otherwise, you have to stroll in nearby streets to find a parking spot. Entrance fee is 12 TL per person, 9.- TL for students. It's not exactly a museum but rather an exhibit of personal toy collections. The exhibits are not efficiently categorized. There are very few explanatory notes but the existing ones are both in Turkish and in English. Audio guide is also available and the bonus is that the narrator is the owner of the museum who is a famous writer and motivational speaker. There is also a charming café at the basement. There are various workshops for children, the day we were there the workshop was on Flinstone cartoon drawings and parents were waiting for their kids in the café.
absolutely perfect museum.you should go and take your child with you.its fanstastic and nostalgic too...you will return back to your childhood..old days:)
Off the beaten track - but a great time. Well worth the visit. Great for families for small children. Fantastic for the young a heart and nostalgic for the more senior generation
As others stated the museum is at the Anatolian Side of Istanbul, at a residential area. We went by car, has a small parking lot, also possible to park at the streets around. A toy museum sounds more attractive to children but we have a 3.5 years ol daughter, unfortunately she didn't enjoy it as much as we hoped. Not being able to touch the toys and almost thousands of objects confused her. I guess children with an older age (at least six) will have a better time. On the other hand all the adults had wonderful time. It takes about 2 hours to see all the toys. Some of them are quite antique. you can see toys from japan, usa, germany etc. Actually you travel within history with them starting from 19th century to present. Doll houses, trains, rockets, cars, celebrity dolls, cowboys, native americans, many other toys were very interesting. There is a cafe inside to rest and they offer souvenirs. Many tourists go around historical places of Istanbul mostly at European Side, but go visit this museum if you have any extra time. We went there as a rainy day activity but it was more than we expected.
you can find every toy coming from past based on different countries and you just let the place take you to the past as if you are in a kind of time machine.every toy has a story, so you ll see what i mean.
Istanbul Toy Museum (Istanbul Oyuncak Muzesi) is located on the Asian side of Istanbul in the Goztepe area of the Kadikoy district. It was opened in 2005 by collector, writer, poet Sunay Akin when he decided to open a museum displaying toys from all over the world. Some even go back to the 18th century, but most of the ones I've seen are from the early 20th century. Most of the countries where the toys are from are Germany, Japan, the USA, Portugal, but I have also seen items from Papua New Guinea, China, and Korea. If you're interested in seeing Eskimo toys, Native American toys, spacecraft items, all of which are creatively placed in separate rooms, you need to see this place. You can even see the toys of US Presidents George Washington and Richard Nixon that were manufactured in 1960. If you think it'd be a waste of time to visit this museum as it appeals only to children, you should think again. Yes, a lot of locals bring their kids to the museum but I have also seen lots of tourists and adults; it's simply a joy to see the toys ranging from dolls to aeroplanes to military items to trains and other memorabilia. You can also learn about the history of Turkey's involvement in the Korean War, the Tatar population in Crimea or how Hitler designed some propaganda toys to lure Turkey into World War II. The museum is a small historical building with three floors and the items are placed in glass windows with good lighting. Photographing is allowed as long as you don't use flash, but the reflections and tight spaces may make it a tad difficult to get everything in the frame. I am attaching some photos; I hope they'll give you an idea as to what you can expect. As of October 2016, the price is 12 Turkish Liras per adult, which is less than $5 US.Most people from the European side might have never heard of this museum or its location, but if you take the ferry to Kadikoy and get a taxi, the drive to Goztepe is about 20 minutes. You can also get here by public transport; you need to get off at the Goztepe Park if you're coming from the seaside and walk up north about 2 kilometres. If you're coming from the Minibus Yolu side, the walk is a little shorter, around 1.5 kilometres. Just print the directions for yourself and you might even enjoy the walk on a nice sunny day. Another option would be to visit the museum if you're down on Bagdat Street (Bagdat Caddesi), the upscale shopping district with lots of shops and restaurants. It's a short walk up from the Goztepe Park. If you're coming by car, the museum offers a limited parking space as well.
A nice museum to visit in the Agean side of İstanbul. Great for children. Nice toys and workshops. 👌
Toy museum is a good goal in the eastern part of istanbul. You can see detailed dollhouses made by hands of toy shoppers years ago. You can see cruel toys of the period of second world war in one room, Toys of the star wars period in another room and...Each room and its theme tells a part of history from the veiw point of toys.
