Parents are loving the modern short stories of 'Five Minute Bedtime Stories' that teach valuable lessons and keep children engaged without distracting pictures. The lack of illustrations makes it more suitable for older kids, and the suggested questions after each story encourage discussion and critical thinking. The stories cover virtues such as honesty, kindness, and self-control, and are written in simple language with occasional larger vocabulary words. While some parents find the stories repetitive and better suited for younger children, others appreciate the witty and purposeful writing that engages their kids and helps them wind down for bedtime.

My kids loves these so much that they asked me to buy the second book by the same author. These are short stories set in modern times that each teach a valuable lesson.
Great collection of stories to help with children who may be struggling with emotional needs.
The stories and fun, and very helpful when developing character. My kids (7 and 12y/o) love the questions after each story. Want the whole collection 😁
We read about every night the kids love the stories. Not so much of the traditional stories like mother goose but these are far more adventuresome and more fitting for the older kids.
It’s a good book but it’s too long, you need to plan at least 15 minutes before the actual time you want leave your child’s bedroom.
Story line more for 5-6 yr olds but written in words more for 9 yr olds. Kinda falls short of expectations. Would not recommend.
When I initially received this book (purchased as an impulse on a larger order) I held it back for a while thinking my 4 year old would be uninterested. He found the book and insisted on reading a story... much to my surprise, he loved it and we quickly worked our way through the entire book. It has become a regular in our bedtime reading, and an early bridge to chapter books.
I really underestimated this book. I don't know if it would be for everyone, but for a young child with a healthy imagination, the lack of pictures is no problem whatsoever.
These stories are very cute and very nicely written. My 3 year old grandson was disappointed that there were not pictures so they are probably better fit to a little older child. But, the stories are great for young boys especially.
The description for this book suggests it’s for 4-8 year olds. My daughter is turning 5 in a couple months, and I can’t imagine reading any book to her without a single illustration to help her imagination grow. I read two stories myself and decided against trying this as a bedtime book; too many concepts, definitely not relaxing themes. Glad other readers had better luck, but this one’s not for us.
Bought these on a whim for some stories to read with my 4 year old before bed. He likes them sometimes, but sometimes I pull the book out and he says “those are boring!!!” But then when I start reading he usually gets into it by the time I hit the second paragraph.
My granddaughter is 5 years old and a bed time story for her is of no interest without pictures. The age range allotted for this book is wrong.
I rarely leave reviews but these are honestly great stories that I stumbled upon on accident I have a 5, a 6, and an 8 year old kiddo and they can all get something out of each story. Love the synopsis at the beginning of each story and the clue into the moral. Something about the flow must be magic because my kids are out cold after 1 and a half of these stories. I used to have to read 5-6 of the classic bedrime stories to get them to wind down and drift off. Love the lack of distracting pictures. My 6 year old will fight sleep by asking to see the picture in typical storybooks and I don't have to fight that stall tactic with this book. This tired mama is glad to be down to less than 10 minutes between lay down time and sleep time. I will absolutely be getting the rest of the series.
My daughter is 6, and these stories are way too childish for her. She gets bored part of the way through one because they get repetitive, as if you’re reading for a toddler. I can barely make it through them myself. She even rolled her eyes once and said “Am I supposed to be learning something that I don’t already know? Because I’m not.”
For example, the one with the girl who was too overwhelmed to clean up because she didn’t know where to start… it took that many pages to get to the point? No offense to the author, but that’s very boring unless it takes the kid just forever to grasp a simple concept. I can see where these are maybe for 3-5 year olds that don’t talk to many adults… but my child already knew by age 4 to divide a monotonous task into smaller parts to not become overwhelmed. I actually spend time with my child and teach them things. This is for parents who don’t spend much time with their kids because it’s teaching things (dear lord especially by age 8) that they should already know. My daughter was also bothered by the fact it says “question” a few times, but it’s actually a statement. Bothered me too.
These are wonderful stories for kids. Each one has a great message!!
I can’t even describe how much I love this book. Every one of stories is witty, engaging, purposeful. These are the ONLY stories my son and daughter (7 and 5) both love equally and cant wait to read every night. Off all the bedtime compilations we have around the house, they are the only stories that aren’t monotonous and predictable. The fact that the character lessons are so cleverly tied in is the amazing icing on the cake. Savannah Bloom- you are my hero! However many volumes you write, I’ll buy them all.
Stories are not very good. They're poorly written and boring.
Modern stories with a morale!.
Great I am pleased with the book.
I read them to my grand children in Singapore. (I record and send the recording!)
Really good.
Some more like this please!
Book stories are good but endings are poor. Book says 4-8 year olds. Well, I read to a 4 1/2 year old and he had a hard time following, I had to explain too much and even skipped some areas as her writing was much too complicated. Liked the questions at end of each story. I think this book should be for 8 year olds. Not for younger children as bedtime stories.
I read these stories to my grandkids, they are memorized during the story, then we have great character building discussions.
No images at all and definitely for kids 5+.
It’s a good quality book so I’m keeping it to read to him in two years.
I bought this book for my granddaughter . Her Mom reads her the stories at bedtime. They are delightful stories. Who wouldn't want to build character in their young children?
The book was in great condition and arrived on time , I did not care for the stories personally but the seller was great , just not my my kind of book. The stories were a little far fetched
Great Bedtime story book. My grandkids want to hear the stories more than once.
These are great stories for helping kids learn good behavior. We have liked using some of the stories to remind our kids they can develop their will power to be stronger than they think!
I guess it’s best for much older kids but the first two stories I could read to my 4yo but the rest were not at all appropriate (we read magic tree house and he gets it). Too bleak
These stories were exactly what I was looking for to enrich the time putting my 7 year old daughter and 9 year old son to bed! Each story has a great little message, and they are just the right length. I love that there are suggested questions after the story to help encourage discussion.
I bought this book as a birthday present for my 6 year old as we have read a story almost each night before bed. The 5 minutes is what caught my attention but the description made it worth the buy. I never write reviews but this book is awesome!! My 11 year old begs me to read from the book each night. And while the story takes 5 minutes, the discussions I have with the boys about these things is a treasure I will hold dear forever. Some nights are like an episode of “kids say the darndest things” and others are torn straight from my heart knowing I’m raising good boys. Love love love it!!
I've never heard of this title and stumbled upon it on my amazon quest for some other educational book I was seeking, but it sounded intriguing so I thought I'd try it. I have kindle unlimited (which this is currently included-09/30/20), but ordered the hard copy out of preference. It comes in paperback and is smaller than I expected. It was grouped with the 5-minute fairytale stories that are usually large square books, but this is an average sized paperback. It has 97 pages and includes 14 stories to cover 14 virtues of character: 1) Self-Control, 2) Foresight, 3) Persistence, 4) Honesty, 5) Positivity, 6) Prioritization, 7) Cleanliness, 8) Obedience, 9) Joy, 10) Helpfulness, 11) Self-Control, 12) Hard Work, 13) Kindness, and 14) Honesty. *Note* It advertises 14 traits, but when writing this review, I realized it repeats 2, so it really has 12 as it repeats self-control and honesty. Before writing this review, I took a few minutes to read a story at random to screen it for my child and I liked it. I thought it was cute, it does take roughly about 5 minutes to read, and thought it would be understandable for kids as young as 5. As my oldest is 5, I don't know what age I would recommend for older, but the story was about 2 boys in an arcade for a birthday party, playing a virtual game, when one of the boy's lied in the game and he lost because of his lies; so I'd guess a 10 year old would like it too. The discussion questions provided are relevant and thought-provoking enough, but I haven't tried them out on my child yet so I don't know if those would be suitable for a 5 year old's comprehension, but you could always modify. Without reading the rest of the book, I would recommend.
This book is exactly what I was looking for. It has modern stories not the same old recycled bedtime stories. After I was done reading the 1st story to my sons (4&5), they asked me to read another one. I loved the story too. It kept them engaged. The book has no pictures so they had to use their imagination. At the end of the story I discussed the 2 questions that were provided. They had fun answering them.
I absolutely recommend this story book. It is not overwhelming long (for parents) like some bedtime stories can be. It has some larger vocabulary words here and there which I loved because it will help kids expand their vocabulary (example recite, demanded) but the stories are simple enough for little kids to understand. After writing this review I am going to check if this author has any other bedtime books to purchase. My kids are excited for tomorrow's story!

Customers are happy with these eco-friendly straws made of veggie fibers. They are sturdy, do not dissolve in liquid, and do not have any weird taste. They hold up well in hot and cold drinks and can be used multiple times. Some customers even tested the straws by leaving them in liquids for several hours, and they still held up. However, one customer noted that the company falsely claims to be certified USDA biobased and that the straws are not backyard compostable.
