  • Great book for Essential Oil Newbie

I originally saw this book at Cracker Barrel. I've only been diffusing essential oils so I've enjoyed reading all the ways you can use them. The book goes over the basics, how to use for wellness and products you can make. Then it lists the top oils and how to use them. It's a great book for anyone starting to use essential oils and would like a great reference book.

  • Some misinformation and some worthy cautious information. All in all, keep looking

I've been using essential oils for about year now both for aromatherapy and also for the antimicrobial and anti viral properties and have been really impressed with the scientific research available, which is why this book was such a disappointment--it provides little evidence based suggestions and some incorrect information. The writer(s) does use citations, but not much, as if it's just for looks. And there is some misinformation altogether. (Who are the writers anyway?) For instance, restless leg syndrome was described as a disorder where "legs kick involuntarily". Well anyone who is familiar with it knows that this is not the case. And many of the recipes seemed more like something you'd find by doing a quick google check. This a book for fun, but if you are looking for valid true information (and it's out there), then look elsewhere.
    Later Edit:
After spending more time in this book, I did find two good things about it. It provides a list of reputable essential oil manufacturers with good recommendations and it is a cautious/conservative book with astute warnings. Mostly, none of us want to hurt ourselves in using essential oils and I think this book does a good job warning readers of potential danger. Remedies come from plants, and so do poisons.
