I really liked the interior despite it being quite dark - it had atmosphere. Has a large outdoor eating area but due to the midday heat we decided to eat indoors. My daughter chose the nachos and portion was large and reasonably priced. Burger and hot sandwiches tasty and we were happy with the service and price.
We thought the continental breakfast was one of the best of our trip. We didnât expect cooked; itâs the continent, the clue is in the title. Plentiful, fresh, different and pleasantly presented on a three tier plate. Rooms were unique in decor, not my particular taste but themed and quirky. Clean, big enough for a couple of nights. This continues downstairs and on to the terrace, itâs a bar, a coffee shop, a restaurant with rooms but itâs honest and doesnât hide or pretend. A town centre location is never going to be peaceful, but it was far from boisterous. Parking available on a street nearby with no charges. Staff very helpful in sorting out my idiocy with Booking.com when I booked the wrong dates by foolish accident. Weâd go back to The Netherlands, back to Edam and wouldnât hesitate in stopping here again. âŚ
When you look at this hotel on any website the photos look amazing particularly if you like the Antique French/Dutch glamourous style and lavish furnishings. We were excited and had looked forward to staying here for the last 2 nights of our stay in The Netherlands after 3 nights in a beautiful top hotel in Amsterdam centre. The location is good as it is central but can be noisy at night particularly if the room faces the front, which ours ended up doing - read on. On the good side, the bed linen was very clean and good quality. We did not eat in the restaurant as the rest of the experience put us off, so I can't really comment on that. We booked what we thought would be the best room in the place, ie: the Bridal Suite, at the most expensive rate for our two night stay here through Booking.com. When we arrived we were confused as to where to check in as apparently the reception desk doubles as the bar which is in the middle of the busy restaurant. Our first point of contact here was a very miserable and rude girl behind the bar who glowered at us when I asked her if this was where we were to check in for our stay. She confirmed it was and then totally ignored us, put her head down and continued with her task! After check in, we discovered that the room we had been given was not the Bridal Suite and when we questioned it we found that the Bridal Suite, the one we had booked and paid for through Booking.com had already been allocated to someone else and that we had been given an inferior and no doubt cheaper room (Rembrandt) which faced the noisy road, which was small and dark and smelt very strange! (Possibly a previous guest had been smoking 'something 'in there?) Upon confrontation, a cash refund of 20 euros and a weak apology was made as compensation, which was very mean as it was clearly the mistake of the hotel and was admitted to by the man who finally checked us in. At least the offer of a free dinner could maybe have softened the blow! We had paid the highest rate for the Bridal Suite thinking it would be the best and most gorgeous room for our stay so were disappointed to find that the room we had booked and paid for was now being used by someone else! The room we ended up in had plenty of faults - not only was it dark, cramped and small but the lights were faulty and kept coming on and going off in the middle of the night which meant a completely sleepless night, there were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room, there was nowhere to put things apart from a small cupboard for hanging, no drawers to speak of and a tiny space left on the dressing table surface, the majority of which was taken up with a large stone bust (of Rembrandt?) and the hotel information folder. The bathroom fan was very noisy, the twin sink plugs did not work so neither sink could be filled. I didn't want to unpack our clothes in case they took on the smell of the room so literally lived out of the suitcase. Our friends had a room there for the second night of our stay and this was even smaller than ours, albeit not as dark, but they had a sleepless night because of the small and uncomfortable double bed. The breakfast was acceptable, but there was no choice for a cooked version, it was continental only and the coffee was in very short supply, which came in a tiny 'tea pot' and we had to pester for a refill. Whilst this place is beautifully furnished with antiques and glamorous accessories, take them away and it belies a scruffy and cheaply renovated 'restaurant with rooms'.âŚ
Excellent location on the canal. Decoration of the hotel lovely although a little bit dark (even in bathroom very little light)! Fantastic full breakfast, typical dutch! Careful no elevator for those who have difficulty with stairs. The staff very kind but unable to help as no management was there so no solution proposed: Upon our arrival they had given our second room next door for the children to another couple who had booked last minute by booking.com ... ! So finally our children were placed one floor above in the room hot like a sauna as the air-conditioner did not work at all. The children didnât dare to keep open the window at night for some fresh air as the room was directly on the roof with loud noises of the machinery and with emergency stairs directly accessible toâŚ
Old fashioned furniture gives a feeling of a different magical time... bubble bath and champagne and what more do you need? Excellent service, anything we needed and they were there to help... great food, great choice of wines and an atmosphere provided by a large fireplace in the restaurant gives an enjoyment to remember... I heard their high tea is amazing as well, will have to come back!
The hotel is on the main square with a lovely canal and bridge. The terrace is huge and perfect for hanging out late into the evening. Rooms are quirky in decor, whimsical, old style. Lovely mainly level with typical European buzz. Staff was fantastic. Can't go wrong here.
A nice central Edam hotel, the bedroom we had was a little bit small ( Marie Antoinette ) but the bathroom was very large, the double bed was lovely.. full marks on the housekeeping and cleanliness of the room. Breakfast was too large but first class if you like ham/cheese & fresh baked croissant but I'm British and would of liked a fried egg & bacon but I have to qualify this by saying I did not ask if they do this! Overall a lovely stay in a small town and a great little hotel.
We had a 2 night Valentines break here in the Romeo & Juliet room, overlooking the canal. It's a picturesque town and this hotel is central. There aren't many facilities in Edam - cafes/bars/shops and it's pretty quiet. This seemed to be one of the busiest restaurants when we were there (we also went to 2 empty bars!). The food is good, we had a 'tapas' selection in the evening and a substantial breakfast of cold meats & cheeses, lovely fresh bread selection, eggs, juice and tea/coffee. Simple but all top quality and very fresh. The hotel bedroom was plush and lavishly decorated, with chandeliers and statues. The bathroom was also nicely fitted out and comfortable. Felt like a special treat to stay in these luxurious surroundings. The staff were friendly and accommodating,âŚ
We were expecting a ghost town on a cold winter Sunday in Edam but to a our surprise, it wasnât. This place was also full of locals with children since Dutch people were celebrating the arrival of Sinterklaas (similar to Santa Claus) to the town. We had a light lunch here with typical Dutch snacks and a cold beer. Nice place with quaint decoration, high ceilings and paintings from famous Dutch artists around. We tasted bitterballen (mashed potato and beef croquettes), kaas-tengels (cheese-fingers) and crispy fried chicken, all were delicious and not very expensive. We will book a room here next time.
This hotel was a highlight of our trip to the Netherlands. The rooms, the food, the staff and the location were beyond our expectations and I would definitely recommend this hotel to travellers on holiday in this area. The restaurant and cafe were superb. The quality and presentation of the rooms was very high and the whole hotel had a wonderful feel to it. The staff were very helpful and always friendly and sincere in their wish to make everyone's visit a pleasant one. I would definitely recommend this hotel to any traveller.

Novotel Rotterdam is a hotel with mixed reviews. Some guests praise the comfortable rooms, good location, and helpful staff, while others complain about rude and unhelpful staff, outdated facilities, and cleanliness issues. The hotel is conveniently located near the university and business park, but it is far from the city center. The breakfast buffet receives positive feedback, but some guests find it overpriced. Overall, the hotel has its pros and cons.
