  • Great ideas for photographers

In this era where we are under house arrest (COVID-19), the authors have good points of interest for the budding picture taker. Since it had several contributors, there is no real order to follow. I pick one as an assignment.

  • Photographers thoughts on photography

This book is useless, its just a collection of suggestions from hundreds of different photographers. Many of the suggestions are more theoretical and philosophical than practical. I thought I'd be purchasing guidance and methods for honing my skills and what I found in this book is a bunch of pseudo intellectuals trying to tell me how to think about photos.

  • Not practical

am an amateur photographer. I shoot photos of everyday landscapes and of birds and bees and other creatures. in the past I did lots of portraits.

this book is 'pie in the sky' artistic theory. if you want to make photos that other graduates of art schools will enjoy, this might be the book for you.

so far (have read about 10% of it) I have read very few projects that make much sense to me. disappointing.

  • I’m 63 I don’t really need a book That explains life’s lessons

More of a book on philosophy rather than photography. I opened the book randomly 4 times and got nothing on actual photographic advice like I was hoping for.
The list of contents at the beginning is all people’s names..... that should have given me a clue.

  • A very interesting book of ideas.

I really like this book. I received it as a gift from my wife. I am a photographer, painter, and mixed media artist.
I like that this boom gives you ideas without giving you direct assignments. Although some of the book does do that. For example one idea is to photograph the alphabet in things you see in the normal day, man made or nature.
A lot of reviews that are bad seem to miss the point of this book, it’s not a how to book, or a book on how to light a still life. You can find all of that stuff on YouTube. This book essentially helps you see more like an artist when you’re stuck in a rut. The lesson on self portraits was great, to make a list of nouns, verbs, and adjectives about yourself and then put them into an idea for a self portrait.

Someone also said they don’t have the time to do these things. I’m sorry but making art, good effective art, takes a lot of time.

  • I love the ideas in here.

I was in a creative slump and getting really frustrated. As soon as I started reading this my mind opened up. So far my favorite idea was to recreate a favorite photo. I didn't do the assignment to a "T", but I did recreate a shot I did of my son last year, but with myself as the subject. It was fun. Some of the exercises get a little "deep", but that's OK. Take what you can and leave what you can't.

  • I love this book. It is a poetic and verbal snapshot of possibility

I love this book and I want to share it with guests in my house, just leave it around for interest. I spend a lot of time alone and it is like a conversation with other photographers who might be friends in some other possible world. I think it 's great and it is really good for a new and serious photographer, a teen or older, someone who wants a dialogue with other photographers. Great!
