Comfy museum with AC, and centrally located, within walking distance from our hotel. Very historical yet attractive to the millennial kids. The tricky part was the lunch break, we were ushered to the other room during its 1 hour closing period. Basically we enjoyed our short visit there.
This is a historical and colonial building. this was where the 1st President of Indonesia started the Non Aligned Movement in the late 60's after indonesia got its independence. Well maintained building
The museums was located in the city of Bandung, situated on Asia Afrika Street No. 65. This museum is a memorabilia of the Asian-African Conference. This museum has a very close relationship with Gedung Merdeka. Overall Merdeka Building has two main buildings, the first is called Gedung Merdeka as the main meeting place, while next to Gedung Merdeka is the Museum of the Asian-African Conference as a memorabilia for the Asian-African Conference.
This place is one of the places that must be visited when traveling to Bandung. Located in Asia-Africa Street, this place presents documentation of the Asia-Africa Summit at the Merdeka Building Bandung on April 18-April 24, 1955. For those who have booked, there is a guide available who will explain every detail of this place. #batulocalguides #letsguide
A worth to visit museum, especially for generation who was born at the end of the 1990-2000 era. This museum will provided you with documentation of the Asia-Africa Nation Conference held in Bandung 18-24 April 1955. During my visit there were some parts of the Museum being renovated, so generally the Museum can be divided to 4 parts.1. Main Entrance. Enter from Asia-Africa Street, you will directly enter the Main Display Hall. It will provided you with documentation from the conference in form of news article copies, photos, voice recording, computer based informational database, to go out go to the north right corner2. The Hallway. In this short hallway their will be billboards explaining Indonesian roles in worldwide politics nowadays.3. The Assembly Hall. The original assembly hall used during the Conference.4. Exit Room + Souvenir Store.
It is worth visiting for those who are in NAM ( Non-align movement ) history. It is free and located in centre of town and 10 metres from hotel Savoy.
a place where liberating millions of people around the world from colonial countries started. if you go to japan and dutch cave before here, you'll understand why tears are pouring in a sudden...
A place that worth to visit and how Indonesia played the role as host of the Asia-Africa conference - historicaly & culturally. You may have some extra attractions at night-time where along the Jl.Asia-Afrika will be full of people within thier various famous costumes by which anyone could have a photo for a certain fee. But to see the people at their costumes is already a sort of attraction.
This museum is famous for holding the first intercontinental summit in Bandung ( Indonesia) after the secong world war which took place in 1955.The museum is located in Asia -Afrik street and in front of an old Bank in Dutch architecture. There is no entrance fee for the both visitors ( local and foreigners ).In the beginning and at the first look, you will see the statues of Sokarno (the first president of Indonesia ) delivering speech and behind him , the statues of other leaders like Nehru, Nasser, Tito. ..This conference became the cornerstone of Non- aligned Movement in 1961.The museum is also decorated by the pictures of then-leaders and the principles of Panca Sila in several languages .Then , you will be guided to a corridor and a room for showing the documentary movies. At the end , you will go to the main conference hall which was the location for Bandung Conference. I believe visiting this historic museum is a must for those who come to Bandung.

Very good overview on the famous Bandung Conference and the beginning of the post war independence movement of former colonies Really a must
This is a good museum to tell the Asian-African Conference. Lots of old magazines, newspaper clippings, and photographs of the event. For me, a local, it's impressive to see how Bandung was a host to it! I got shiver seeing photographs of world leaders at that time discussing things. Recommended if you happen to stroll around the asian-african road! Not far from there you could also go to another museum, namely Mandala Wangsit Museum.
I always enjoy visiting history museums abroad, you always get a slightly different perspective form what you've learned in school. The same goes for this museum, they have general info about the WWII and the Cold War, as these are important for the conference. Before coming here I never heard about the conference before but it is certainly very interesting to learn about! Only sometimes I would have liked some elaboration on events mentioned. Overall, if you like history, it's a must visit in Bandung!
The Asia-Africa Conference of 1955 signalled the beginning of the post-colonial era and the unity of former colonies now facing a world split between the capitalist West and the communist East. The museum is easily worth an hour of your time if you have an interest in this topic, and the building itself is a notable piece of Art Deco architecture;
The visit gives me an understanding of the post world war 2 development in the region among the non-superpower nations.
This heritage building had many memories. In 1955, several Asia and Africa countries made big conference in Bandung and gave deckaration that presented Asia Africa voice
Our family loves going to the museum as our kids can learn a lot about the history and this particular museum is also very educational.
If all museum in Indonesia as good as this one I'm sure Indonesian kids would like to visit it. Inside the museum you will find a modern atmosphere that will make you enjoying your time. I can't believe it free of charge.
Free entry and very well maintained museum. The guides are very helpful and telling us lots of stories about the history of Asia-Africa Conference. It's interesting that they still keep the original furnitures/attributes used in the conference and knowing the impacts it had for the rest of the world history following the event.
In this museum you will hear the story that told how great were Asian and African nation. And how they will be again one day! The Heritage that built a nation. The entrance fee is free but The museum doesn’t have a complete souvenirs shop.
It brought me to an era i can only imagine where Asian and African countries were fighting for their independences from their colonial masters. The ideal to be a master of their destiny. We went to the conference hall and were in awe. Do not give it a miss if you are in Bandung.
Quite clearly this was the high-point of this otherwise obscure town of Indonesia, and so there is every reason to celebrate this age-old landmark event when world leaders decended on this town.A well laid out museum which tries to show everything about the event and its paraphernalia. Worth a visit - especially as its free.
Pretty well stumbled on this gem of a museum. I must confess to not knowing of this event in 1955 but the resultant declaration is powerful. The art-deco architecture and the grand hall are impressive.
This museum is attractive to only two kinds of people: those who love world history and global politics, and those who love Art Deco and Mid-Century Modern architecture. If you're like me and love BOTH of those topics, then this is an attraction not to be missed! Our six-year-old niece was not particularly pleased, however.
this beautiful white colonial building locates on Asia/Africa street in the business district of City of Bandung. the exhibition tells the stories about the big conference about joint venture between the 2 continents (Asia and Africa) hosted by the city. it's interesting and not too informative.Opposite the museum , there is a art gallery with colonial style building too.
Although this does not sound as if it is going to be interesting, it is and I highly recommend spending a couple of hours here to discover why Bandung cherishes its history so much.
I visited Gedung Merdeka/Museum KAA on Februari 14 2015, as my youngest has his extra curricular activities in film making in the property. This historic building first used as a impressive club of its time known as Societat Concordia (hope I write it correctly). Then, on 1955, its used as the place for first Asia-Africa Conference, which later become a force called Non-Aligned Movement. The Museum part, is a wing that told a story about what, how, who and when the conference held. They have a guide for a tour. Its open from 8 am, until afternoon. Not many know about this historical sites. This building still use for some Government activities or other official activities especially in the conference room. As far as I know, there are no fee charged to enter. This beautiful property has a long story that also another attraction. But, if you come here by car, you might find the parking a bit problem, especially in weekend. If you look for souvenir, they have some souvenir store, but there are not many of choice you can have. Its a good place for someone who love historical building (like me), but it wont be an attractive place for other (who might only take photos and go..)
if you dont have appointment (that means, you have to come with group). they will not open & you can only see from the outside
Very informative. Staffs are friendly. A bit small though!
The Asia-Africa Conference Museum (Asia-Afrika in Indonesian) is another stop you should add to your walking tour of Bandung. The museum provides an overview of the 1955 conference when the newly independent, non-aligned countries of Asia and Africa met in Bandung. President Soekarno had chosen the museum building as the site of the conference because it was the largest and most luxurious in Bandung. There was also some potent symbolism involved in the choice, as the building had once been the Societiet Concordia Building, where the Dutch colonial elite hobnobbed over drinks and excluded 'natives' from membership. In a typical move, Soekarno re-named the building 'Gedung Merdeka' (Independence Building) just before the conference.Apart from learning about the conference, visitors can take in some fine modern architecture. The conference hall was re-modelled in 1940 by prominent architect Albert Aalbers, who had also designed the art-deco renovations for the nearby Hotel Savoy-Homann. It features horizontal lines and a flat roof. Its interior was inspired by the Cubist school of art. However, my favorite part of the complex is the original 1921 wing designed by functionalist and structuralist architect, C. P Wolff Schoemaker. This was the most exclusive and luxurious club in The Indies at the time, featuring Italian marble floors. Its elegant facade is oneof the most impressive in all Bandung.

The atmosphere is colorful with photos and objects from around the world, making it a perfect place for travelers. They have a wide selection of beers and cocktails. However, some reviewers mentioned high prices and issues with raw food and slow service.
