Many customers found the taste of Ascent Plant Protein to be unpleasant and difficult to mix. Some experienced stomach issues such as cramping and bloating. However, others enjoyed the taste and found it to be a great alternative to whey protein. The product is high in protein and low in sugar, making it a popular choice for quick breakfasts or post-workout shakes. Some customers were disappointed that the product was not certified organic despite the photos showing otherwise.

I have tried a variety of different plant protein powders so to my knowledge my stomach isnât too sensitive, but holy cow this powder had me near bed-ridden. The first day I had awful cramping and stomach pain⌠wasnât sure if it was because of the powder so gave it another day and was then experiencing indigestion and diarrhea for a solid 2 days. The scooper they include is MASSIVE as well so the amount of powder needed to hit the 25 g is clearly alot.
Was not a fan of how this mixes or the taste.
Taste great and super easy to clean. Doesnât stick to glasses like most.
This was a waste for me. Does not blend well and tastes horrible. I was unable to finish the bag.
I was to happy with the Vanilla Bean flavorâŚitâs way too sweet for me. I donât mind sweetness but this is at another level in my opinion.
Taste great! An awesome alternative to Whey
I have tried the peanut butter, and chocolate powder ascent brand so I thought that the vanilla would be just as good, but I was wrong. It has a strong sour taste that leaves an after taste. There is nothing you can add to the smoothie to overpower this sour taste. I will not be purchasing this flavor again.
Absolutely disgusting flavor. Their original whey protein is good. This is just horrible.
Strong nutty flavor, very thick. My last powder mixed in a water bottle, no problem. Not this one. The taste is very strong with a slight aftertaste and thick.
Certainly not my favorite. I will finish it, but not at the top my list to buy again.
itâs by far is my favorite vegan shake. It doesnât clump and very tasty without a nasty aftertaste.
Itâs not bad but the aftertaste is strong and tastes like a load of chemicals. I agree with other reviewers; the flavor overpowers whatever you mix it with. Wonât buy again but Iâll get through it.
This was recommended to me buy a friend. I didn't like any of the others I tried that my dietitian recommend. The flavor is a little better than others but still not great. I'm dairy-free, gluten-free and soy free due to intolerances and allergies. It's one of the better vegan ones but I prefer the Sprouts brand and flavors. My son ended up finishing this for his after workout.
* I bought it on SALE, so let me start there!
It is vegan and I cannot have dairy so that is limiting in itself.
âď¸ You def MUST add fruit because there is a funny after taste. The fruit alleviates that.
Overall performance has been satisfactory.
Filling, no hunger, muscles health!
If you can get past a little after taste itâs a great deal!
I drink a lot of different protein supplements. The single serving packets were on sale at my local whole foods, so I decided to try this vanilla plant based flavor.
This protein powder wrecked me. I mean like, hours in the bathroom, intense stomach cramps and bloating. I donât know what it is about it, because I am not aware of having a sensitivity to any of the listed ingredients. Just a word of warning.
Horrid taste. Makes smoothie very thick and grainy
As with nearly all products that use Stevia, this is sickeningly sweet.
Recipes would be good
I'm a long-time protein smoothie drinker. I have several shakes a week. I tried this based on reviews that said the product tastes great.
I have to strongly disagree. It leaves a bad, chalky taste in your mouth. The consistency is very thin. I had to add extra thickener to it even though I put in about two ounces less of water than the directions called for. Unfortunately, the item cannot be returned.
I bought this on a whim because I'd tried this brand's whey protein and liked that one a lot. I stopped taking the whey protein however because I discovered upon reading an article that whey protein could make acne worse and I'd been having bad cystic breakouts (not cute). Since I stopped taking the whey protein, it's been less of an issue, so hopefully, I won't have to deal with that any longer, now or in the future.
I thought giving this plant protein a shot was a good idea but I could not have been more wrong (and of course, I went all in and grabbed a THREE-pound bag of it, like an idiot). The texture is almost too creamy if that makes sense and I can definitely taste the artificial sweetener in this one, unlike Ascent's whey protein. It just tastes SO. BAD. to me. I will not be buying this one again; the search for a decent plant protein continues.
I love Ascent whey protein but the vegan protein is terrible tasting. The worst.
Excellent quality, great taste, it is my go to for quick breakfast or post work out
My sister recommended that I buy this protein powder. She told me it tasted like ice cream (of course I didn't believe her). I'm thrilled to say that I was wrong - it DOES taste like ice cream. It's delicious, thick, and double win for plant based and no bloating.
Great
Really good chocolate flavor
After doing research for purchase of protein powder; I chose Ascent Plant Protein due to: clean ingredients, high protein (25gm), 0 Cholesterol and low sugar (1gm).
I use exclusively for protein shakes.
I know this protein powder isnât designed for meal replacement, butâŚit actually is. I work at a warehouse offloading freight. I drink a 32 oz container with my favorite fruits and Oatmilk. It taste SOOOOO incredibly good and I have energy that last for my entire shift..2-3 hoursâŚFULL ACTIVITY!!! Something spectacular I noticed was how Iâm alert and my eyes/vision is positively affected. THAT vision aspect was very noticeable. I have issues with too much sugar intake. This product doesnât leave me with a headache. When Iâm going to busy for the day, this is my go-to item. My favorite flavor is chocolate peanut butter.
Smells good, powder feels fine. Then you blend it and realize it taste like dirt. However, I still love it and definitely needs fruits in the blend.
Ive been cycling through many different protein powders, trying to find THE ONE. The taste is⌠well, doable. I donât really like shakes that thicken up like this one does, but some love it. To me, if the taste isnât good enough to savor, Iâd rather go without the thickness so that it goes down easier. A little extra water helps, so whatever. What really gripes me on this one though, is the cramps and bloating it brings. I realized it was bad enough by the second shake that I actually attempted for a return, but it turns out I have to go through the company and thereâs no telling how that will turn out. But Iâll try it and report back. Most likely itâs just going to be a âmeâ problem, but it still sucks I dropped 40 smackerooskis on this big bag of bloat. Bummer.
Protein rating
Turns out this product is NOT certified organic. The classic bait and switch. The photos showed organic but when the product arrives it definitely isnât. Itâs too bad. Prepare for return.
Hopefully the manufacturer gets it together and starts making this product organic. Come on⌠get with the program here.. people want organic.
