Fender 9050 Flatwound Bass Strings: Exclusive Insights

After not getting the bass sound I wanted from my new Precision bass with spanky bright round wounds, I read that up until relatively recently, precision basses had flat wounds as standard. I thought they were just for fretless basses, but decided to try some, and so glad I did.
They sound superb, lovely vintage smooth and solid bass, but also feel great under the fingers. Will only use these from now on.

I bought these to replace the roundwound phosphor bronze strings on my new accoustic bass. The pb strings were noisy with too much finger noise and rattled because of their relatively low tension.

So I tried these Fender flatwounds as a bit of an experiment. Very glad I did. No more scratchy finger noise and the tone is wonderful. The brightness is still there but none of the scratches and rattles.

These strings have turned my budget B-stock accoustic bass into a thing of beauty.

excellent strings for fretless bass, I even have them on my fretted F/Jazz and F/Precision which gives both basses a nice warm sound and very clean when using finger style. You can`t go wrong with anything from Fender, in my opinion.

Nice tone strings and also feel very different to round wound strings. A very good quality set of strings for the price.
I really like them just the green bounding thread does create a lot of mess meaning you will have to dust it off once they have been put on.

The best Flats, bar none. I was a seasoned Rounds user, tried a few sets of Flats, but didn't gel.

Got hold of a set of these, and never looked back. Great feel, superb tone, and just all-round great strings.

Playing with these strings on a fretless bass produces a really nice tone, even on the terrible homemade fretless that I have! Just make sure that you wind the string at the machine head on the bit of the string that's got the fuzzy green material, otherwise you'll make the kink in the string very damaged and weak.
