  • Perfect condition and helpful

    So this won’t fully teach you how to paint. It’s not a step by step book. However its a very informative book that helps people understand coloring and how light affects color. I bought this cause my class required it and it’s definitely worth the price. Definitely cheaper than at BN.

    Also if you don’t like heavy text, then is a great book. I have a short attention span so reading through this is easy.

  • So much great content in one book!

    Absolutely everything is there to understand how light and colour works.
    The only thing missing would have been step-by-step guides of paintings, but I guess the focus here was to understand how things work rather than replicating his work, and that's okey.
    So much great content, I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to better understand this topic and level-up their art.

  • A must-have for any artist

    Truly extraordinary. I've yet to find an author who conveys artistic lighting, a rather imprecise discipline, as well as James Gurney does. If I had to recommend one artistic reference book for painters, this would be it.

  • Awesome reference and tutorial

    I love this book because it explains a lot of the basics of getting a painting right when it comes to the use of color and light. Really excellent for any artist, but especially people who are not beginners and not quite professional.

  • Awesome

    I flipped through this in the bookstore and fell in love with a single picture of some menacing T-Rexes bathed in the setting sun (the artist knows how to do light on an angle). It was too expensive so I put it back.
    I changed my mind a week later but it was gone so I got it through amazon -- them and their limitless shelf space!
    Fantastic book of dinosaur art. Get close to T-Rexes without being in danger. What's not to like?

    My 3 favorite art books (available on Amazon) are:
    - Icon by Frank Frazetta (magnificent style the hard way -- with a brush)
    - The Art of Omni by Jeremy Frommer (from Omni Magazine)
    - Great Fighter Jets of the Galaxy 1 by Tim Gibson (100 full color pictures)

    A dedicated and detailed book filled with Gurney's knowledge! I'm in love with the two books in the series, both are dedicated masterpieces trying to be as clear ans useful as possible, for artist to understand principles of light, color, and the process of creation! This one here is for the use of color, and understanding Light principles, it's a wonderful book, a must have for painters!!

    I'm almost speechless. Just got my copy and can't believe what I'm looking at. Even if you're not an artist, this is easily worth several times the asking price. As a beginning artist, it's priceless. Exquisite artwork and sage observations from an artist who has done the work -- and obviously loves it dearly. Thank you, James Gurney!
