The National Gallery in Singapore is a must-visit destination for art lovers and history enthusiasts. With its majestic colonial building and well-curated exhibitions, it offers a unique experience. The gallery showcases a magnificent collection of Southeast Asian art and provides a space for inspiration and reflection. It also houses important historical artifacts, highlighting Singapore's significant milestones. The architecture is stunning, and the rooftop offers beautiful views. Overall, the National Gallery is a world-class institution that celebrates art, culture, and Singapore's rich heritage.
Definitely worth the price. The ticket is cheap compared to what we’ve got to see. The building itself is very beautiful, with cold air-con, quiet, calm, VERY peaceful to be here.
A very interesting place to escape from the heat and learn more about Singapore art and culture. Atmospheric building, helpful staff and amazing views from the top floor. Glad we took the time to visit. Number 80 bus from Chinatown got us here.
It was beautiful! There's a great range of artworks with focus on southeast asian artworks! Really nice to be represented! The "guards"/workers are suuuuper helpful as well by including more information unprompted!
This time I walked past and stopped to take photos outside only.beautiful buildings
Schöne und sehenswerte Gallery. Auf jeden Fall auch die Dachterrasse besuchen
Good for all student if you want to learn history Singapore...
Wonderful.
Waited until 2pm for the rotunda library to open to take some beautiful photos, and one of the staff saw and came up to me and ask if I know this is a research library? Did she mean that I only can enter if I’m doing research? Also she prompted me to sanitize my hand. May I know what is the reason that she had to come up to me to remind me to sanitize my hand? If there is a sign at the entrance to say that I need to sanitize before entering or if she’s asking everyone in the library to do so, I would gladly oblige. As a local, I feel very discriminated, even more than when I travel to other countries
The Children Biennale event was really good. Thumbs up for the event organizer.
Nice place to chill and understand some art history. Great restaurant choices too.
Stunning. First visit. Spent three hours. Could have spent more. Glad we came. Recognition to the helpful staff too. Mitch at the entrance had great zeal in providing informative guidance when we first arrived. FYI, some of the individual galleries are pretty cold in temperature. Not a bad idea to bring a light sweater or jacket. On today’s visit, most staff wore gallery-issued sweaters.
Baby friendly
Really great experience and activity for a rainy day. Better than expected
Autistic exhibition was extremely moving. It taught me that all people are the same.
This is our favourite museum to visit in Singapore, so much so that we took our wedding photos here! There are always great exhibits on, and we particularly enjoyed Liu Kuo Song: Experimentation As Method this October. The museum is spacious and clean, there are lockers ($1 deposit) for use, and now that we have a newborn, I'm glad to report that family amenities are available too (changing room with hot water dispenser and a nursing area).
Great ambient and beaitiful roof garden at L5
super bad experience overall, especially at the rotunda library and archive.i was met with a worker, seemingly the librarian. she interrogated me if i had sanitised my hands, which i had already done upon entering. to which i responded yes, she proceeded to ask me the same question thrice. after which she rephrased her her question in chinese, which felt extremely patronising and condescending. why did she basically infantilise me as if i couldnt speak english?she then interrogated me again as to where the hand sanitizer was. i know that the archive has rare books and everything, but this condescending attitude towards me made me feel so unwelcomed. left immediately lolalso, there is an one old chinese man who followed me around this exhibition from the moment i stepped in. cant remember the exhib, but there were other people who were in the exhibition itself already and they werent getting followed around. i stared daggers at him after noticing and i left the whole gallery shortly.overall if you’re non singaporean please save ur money since its not free entry for non singaporeans. fortunately since im singaporean i got tickets for free. this place sucks and it made me feel alienated and unwelcomed
went to this place for a school trip, it has many friendly guides. The overall internal design of this place was really unique and the exterior too. This is a perfect place for students to learn about some history of the artworks and admire the techniques and art styles of past artist. Especially loved the art work “malay kampung” where the artiest used carved wood to imprint the picture of a piece of paper. Even though it was only a short hour tour, it was very meaningful and eventful. would definitely come again!
The ticket fee is not very cheap, but there are many parts of the gallery that are free to access, including some of their temporary exhibitions. Do check their website before you visit. You need to allocate quite some time if you intend to explore this place because it’s huge and very interesting. We came there thinking that 1,5 hours would be enough but ended up hurrying through the buildings and not having enough time. There’s a very cozy library inside where you can browse some books especially about art. You can also get a nice view of MBS from the rooftop.
If you are an artiste and enjoy cultural heritage this place is a palace kaleidoscope for your inner path💯💯💯💯 Great architectural design for sustainable future
A great place to be.
I had a wonderful time visiting Singapore until I entered this national gallery. My visit to this place ruined my stay in Singapore. I have never been so disappointed, I used to visit national galleries all over the world, London, New York, everywhere I went and I was never treated so disrespectfully as I was here. The security guard treated me in a very rude and shameful way, completely unnecessary. I will never visit this place again.
If you are an Arts lover then you will fall in love with this place. Otherwise you will be mesmerized by the beautiful architecture. Try to get a local guide as there are many small details that might miss the human eye. Every painting has a story to tell. Try to relate to it! This is definitely the best gallery in the world.
Always a fun trip. It's always fun to go with my partner and explore every few months!
Cool place
Visiting this art institution with friends was an enriching experience. The vast collection of artworks is impressive, spanning various genres and cultures. The gallery's architecture is awe-inspiring, providing a unique backdrop for the exhibits. The informative displays and friendly staff added to the enjoyment. It's a must-visit cultural destination, offering a glimpse into the world of art that's both educational and visually captivating.
Free entering for any exhibitions for Singaporean, for tourists the top level is the most popular places, you can see the whole marina Bay Area
Lots of artwork to see. A must visit for art enthusiasts
Very nice histiocal place
Great place to take the kids on a weekend. It has several free art activities to do for kids that helps them explore their creativity in many ways. So check out their events calendar as there are many events that take place regularly
This was a real highlight during our stay in Singapore. It showed the history of Singapore from mid to late 19th century to current day through the various art periods of the last 2 centuries. Loved it and recommend it to everyone.
Match the worldclassness of Singapore. The nearby Adelphi, 5 mins walk, exit from back door offer cheap food of less than $5. But Aldephi is not worldclass. It should be torn down soon. Old shopping mall.
Nice place, informative.
very relaxing, and the staff there are very informative. The art work is very beautiful and have very deep stories.
The former Supreme Court is a historical building, if you are interested in art, you can spend a whole day there to gain knowledge about Singapore art history. A ticket is required for entry but is free for the locals. It has a floor for the children to spend a day there too.If you are not interested in art, it is a very good place for taking beautiful pictures at almost every corner.
air-conditioning is wonderful, too wonderful even. there is art. the cafe is nice, has very reasonable prices, the bathroom was amazing to take a dump in. it's worth a 3 hour visit because the art is cool. 5 hours if you want to do a photoshoot because the building is pretty.
It would have been fun if I was Singaporean.Historical content that is difficult for me with no basic knowledge
You can to see beautiful paintings, the city hall and old supreme court.
A heaven in the heat! Very interesting art and artists from the region including sociopolitical works and historic. Lovely building, well maintained and staffed and great food places.
Must place to go seriously
Interactive and fun place to bring the kids
Rich in heritage and history, this place is very clean, well ventilated and full of artifacts that mark Singapore's significant milestones in its journey to this great nation today. Truly world class, just like the country and people it exhibits!
Quite a nice place inside, with nice restaurant and majestic colonial building externally
A beautiful building with some restaurants and bars on the top floor. Great collection of South East Asian art and some changing exhibitions worth checking on the website. Super friendly service and relaxing space. Great for photo sessions too. Enjoyed my time there.
Nice
Buy the tickets in advance in the Kkday or Klook websites will be good to visit.
I am a regular visitor. This time I saw the Liu kuo sung exhibition. Excellent work by the master!
Free enterant... went basement.
lots of public air conditioned space to chill around, and the staff there are always so friendly!!! even at the entrance nearer to city hall mrt, the staffs are v attentive to anyone that might need help with wayfinding and ticketing (locals can get their general admission sticker directly from them if they have the stickers with them too). and even in the galleries everyone is friendly and nice too! they won't bother you if you don't talk to them and i think thats really nice because sometimes we may not feel like talking, but when i do approach them, they're always open to answering any queries we may have!
Beautiful too see
A must visit for those who enjoy thoughtful and well curated exhibitions. The architecture is also amazing and provides an amazing space for photoshoots.
Wow the largest art gallery I’ve ever been to!I’ve got to see loads of amazing art works even a couple by Xu bei hong, it’s so incredible! My favourite exhibitions are Jean Marie Syjuco’s interactive giraffe, it’s so fun and creative! Liu Kuo-Sung’s ink paintings are just so mesmerising. All the staffs here are amazing, super friendly! I recommend at least half a day here cuz it’s massive!
Great place to see some of Singapore's history.
It's an amazing space to see art from all corners of Asia
Important historical place in Singapore. Worth visiting at least once.
Free for locals
Beautiful Building and great Exhibitions and Events.
We went to the museum to acquaint ourselves with Singapore's history. I was particularly fascinated with the minimalist exhibition that was taking place that time. Extremely beautiful! Once you go inside, it's pretty huge and you will need to shell out 2hrs easily to get a sneak peek into every displayed works inside. If you want to join the free guided tours, I suggest to check their schedules so you could plan ahead. I'd highly recommend this place.
Attended as part of Singapore night festival, Worth the visit
National Gallery Singapore is a cultural treasure trove. It showcases a rich collection of art and history in a stunning architectural setting. The exhibitions are thought-provoking, and the gallery offers a deep dive into Singapore's cultural heritage. It's a must-visit for art enthusiasts and history buffs alike.
The gallery was also featured in a recent TV documentary on the restoration of the buildings. Fascinating to see it first hand. Some wonderful pieces of art. The gallery also overlooked the F1 track from the top floor which was under preparation for the event.
Huge gallery, sterile environment.good shop & helpfully staff. Mediocre exhibitions
The best playground.I had fun watching and experiencing the work.Children's Biennale is always fun
Many other schools & older kids are exploring. With a booklet, they went to find rhose chopped that indicate we have been. It's a little boring for me cause im not into such. Hahaha, but my kids are running around aimlessly looking for chops to complete it. 😅
Nice place to visit
very nice staff
Historical and fantastic.
Amazing! It's way too much to digest in one visit.
Good
It's a great place to spend the weekend.
Non lo consiglierei
Great place to visit, nice architecture, great design shop and good environment for kids.
Vast, classical and modern. Suitable for all ages, with souvenir shop, resting and refuelling points available.
Great place for a hot day, especially for families and some tranquility.
Wonderful place to spend a whole day with family that’s free for Singaporean and PR. There’s a Children Biennale event that’s free. The event has many stations around the gallery with many having little activities for the children. Each station the kids can collect stamps which in the end can be redeemed for a small present. My favourite is the station where you can build your own blanket fort. Children (or child-liked adult) can easily spend an hour here.Would want to come back for the actual gallery.
Wonderful place to learn much of the history of Singapore. Exceptional presentations and displays.
Perfect place for kids aged 3-12 with lots of hands on for them to dabble during Children's Biennale. Free for Singaporeans, just get a sticker from the vending machine.
A place to get inspiration as you take a look at all those art work. Singaporean visits free and it's easy to get tickets with the gallary app.
Recomended for Indonesian to see the National Gallery. Lots of real Indonesian Art especialy Raden Saleh and Indonesia Modern Art
