Delightful Gelateria in the heart of Rome. Amazing flavours and authentically fresh gelatos. Valerie welcomed us every time we came and allowed us to sample some of the unusual flavours.
When you just have to have one more gelato before you return home from vacation and stumble upon one near your hotel. So unique.
We discovered this shop on our Vespa sidecar tour and loved it so much, we returned every single day of our stay in Rome. The flavors are simply delicious with fresh ingredients and use of less "ordinary" flavors - incorporating herbs, etc. As a traditionalist,...I loved the Lemon. If you want natural, fresh, non big-chain gelateria- you MUST go here!!! The mint chip (menthe e cioccolate?) uses REAL mint leaves and is to die for. The absolute best mint chip I’ve ever had. Also- os a gluten free persons dream to be able...to have it in a cone!! Tutto Senza Glutine (which means everything is gluten free!). So good, even my gluten eating husband will make the trek for me no matter where we are staying in Rome. We come here multiple times a visit… and the owner is so seeet and always seems to be there.

Gosh I can’t say enough good things about this place.
Good gelato, loved the variety of flavors, very interesting ones too. I wouldn't say it was my favorite gelato though, we tried a lot and this one was middle of the pack. But the location is nice and flavors are fun!
Really interesting flavours. Will come back to try the Wasabi chocolate. I tried the tobacco chocolate and Basil with honey and nuts
Great spot for late night drinking, but we love the ice-cream. So many interesting flavours and very inventive, while at the same time the traditional flavours were also excellent. So glad to try this place for ice-cream. Far surpassed the other places mentioned in the...guide books.More guide books.
Amazing gluten free ice cream, many options, even waffle cones! Try the cinnamon and pistachio, you won’t regret it :) !
Cool little spot to grab a gelato. Plenty of walls to sit on outside. And a fountain to fill you water up with from the 2000 year old aqueduct!
very nice place with creative ice cream flavours - about 8 kinds of chocolate, avocado and garlic ice. perfect for the ice cream lover!
Super stuff, sat outside in the sun with my 10 y/o sampling ice cream, she’s an expert and this was her favourite. We kept coming back here.
Wild selection but also enough traditional flavors. I had dark chocolate with black tea, pecorino with honey and orange peel, and grapes with walnuts. Going back for Basil tomorrow.
Some really different flavours! Ice cream lovely and service good. Tucked away wouldn’t have found it without a reccomendation!
The location specified ... Piazza Degli Zingari 5, 00184 Rome Italy ... is not currently or recently a Fatamoranga store.
Wow... carrot cake flavour. Ricotta cheese with figs flavour...just to name two. These guys are the real deal. Whilst some of the flavours seem out there, the gelato does all the talking. Well done..a must try on Trastevere.
This was absolutely amazing. Would recommend the vanilla ice cream and don't forget the wipped cream on top of it!!!!!!
Excellent gelato in Monti — so delicious that we came twice in two days! Many flavors but our favorite was the dark chocolate. Yum!
My husband and I had gelato at Fatamorgana multiple times during our recent honeymoon in Rome. The prices are good, and you can choose to include whipped cream on top of the gelato. The flavours are special and taste good - best gelato we had...More
Huge selection of flavours and delicious. Not too expensive and caters well to people with allergens
Really excellent gelato, loads of delicious flavours. Really helpful and accommodating for my allergies, would definitely visit again
Can't wait to visit them again tomorow. Everyithing is gluten free even the corneto is gluten free. Alergens are clearly marked. Very frendly and helpful staff.
I came back after 6 years and the creativity of flavours and quality of gelato is just as I remembered! Absolutely delicious gelato that trumps many in Rome.
What a great gelato place. Sadly we didn't try it until the day before we left :(
Amazing flavours and at a great price. To "top" it all, you could have the gelato covered in white or milk chocolate... or cream!
Definitely worth seeking out...More
Fantastic range of flavour combinations. Some familiar favourites alongside new and exciting combinations. I wish I had been in Rome long enough to try them all.
Loads of different interesting flavours, all gluten free, dairy free, vegan and many more which I can't remember!. Service excellent and very friendly. We visited 3 time's in four days and didn't try anywhere else as we loved this geletaria. Two scoops of gelato €3. The gluten...More
Best gelato ever - grazie mille Fat Morgan! Lots of flavours, lots of chocolate. Great value for money! Incredible! Yum!
I loved the interesting combinations that they make, but the size of one scoop could be bigger :)
The milky ones are way better than the ones with water base.
….would never be out of the place! I’d happily work my way through the colossal range. Couldn’t resist trying out the fennel and the basil flavours. The lovely girl serving popped a bit of the pecorino sardo on top….loved the very different and original flavours...More
Worst ice cream I've ever eaten in Rome.
The flavours were too much and too particular, for example the one that I took was made of pecorino sardo.
There are two sizes for the cones: the one with two flavours (2.5€) and the one with...More
I wish I lived near this Ice Cream Shop 🥰 We were so glad it wasn’t that busy the afternoon we visited as the choice was amazing!! Some regular flavours like strawberry or white chocolate & then the funky flavours! Gelato with pecorino, honey, Roquefort,...More
We saw this recommendation by Tour Guy on YouTube. As everything else they recommended, this place was super yummy. They had a good variety of flavors. Very unique ones too. I highly recommend them for a great gelato experience.
Great selection of flavours and very friendly people. The gelato was very good and we returned several times during our stay in Rome. Great!
I had 3 flavors. Gianduia is always my favorite and this was one of the best. The other two flavors I didn’t care for. I had the licorice and the basil. The licorice did not have my idea of a licorice flavour and the basil...More
I was surprised and remain surprised by the top reviews for this place. The cones are miniscule and so are the servings, offered with the traditional half-sphere scoop. I am sorry to report that I did not trade quantity for quality as my gelati were...More
Great little Gelato shop with a good selection of flavours and friendly staff. Nice area to congregate outside and I joy a glass of wine, beer or a Gelato from this place.
If you have read my reviews about ice cream places, one of my favorite thing is to taste granita (slushy). I love good sweet/sour granita. Italy has not let me down. I will continue to find more places for granita. Now, fatamorgana is bit mid-range,...More
In our 4 day stay we came here 3 times and between the two of us tried 12 different delicious and original flavours. All the numerous commercial places on the main streets come nowhere near. Well worth a detour. Recommend the dark chocolate ones.
Now with a location in Los Angeles, Gelateria Fatamorgana first expanded inside Rome itself, and although both scoops and storefront in Monti are small the Gelateria that hashtagged #naturallygood has become a destination for both freshness as well as purity.
The brainchild of Chef Maria...More
Out of all the gelato places we tried, this one by far had the most unusual flavors. However, the texture was more ice .. almost like shaved ice vs creamy. We tried the ginger pineapple which was great, and another that was a little sour.
Thought this gelato would be amazing as it made the many best of gelato lists in Rome. Scoops were tiny and flavors were standard. I would say it’s more natural than others according to the marketing but I wouldn’t rush there. I tried the location...More
Oh my goodness, this gelato is incredible!!! Never tasted anything like it, I had one chocolate and one raspberry and it was like eating the real thing not gelato. Honestly imcredible! Highly recommend!!!
Perfect end to the afternoon! So good we went back the next day. Kids had milkshakes, we had ice creams - delicious
2 tiny serves in a cup for €2.50. Are they trying to save money? Please be more generous with your serves.
This little place isn’t in your face, but the gelato was lovely and the square outside is the perfect place to enjoy it :) tried the Snow White and stracciatella flavours, both were delicious and the cone was nice and crispy too!
Fatamorgana is a great gelato joint in Rome. They have lots of unique flavors. They label each flavor with its main ingredients and also if it is gluten-free, egg-free, milk-free, nut-free, or sugar-free. The taste is delicious!
We have tried a few gelato stores and this rates number 1 or 2. Beautiful flavours well worth the visit.
In our stay in Rome, we had inadvertently booked an Air BnB close to a ice cream parlour which was 100% gluten free. They had a lot of gelato on offer which was lovely and you could choose a cone or a cup. Their melon...More
Many flavours, also many quite inventive ones, reasonable prices, probably one of the best ice cream parlours in Rome
Love that they clearly label everything to show if there is milk, egg, nuts, etc in the - easy for a vegan eater to identify.
found this place randomly, it’s the best ice cream i ever had. they got like 6 different chocolate flavors and the most exotic flavors i ever heard of
On our second day in Rome we stopped at Fatamorgana, and it was our favorite gelato our whole vacation. We loved the unique flavors, and how they left fruit in their gelato to make it taste even more authentic. We came here 3 days in...More
Found Fatamorgana on our last full day in Rome. Alas, we had unwittingly saved the best for last. There are so many original flavors that a choice is difficult. 2,50 Euros buys a cup with two scoops of gelato. My choice was stracciatella (creamy vanilla...More
We found this place near the via del corso and our hotel based on the Rick Steve's tour book recommendation. The best flavors, and everything was so fresh! We loved it - went 3-4 times, and only wish we had found it sooner!
A wide variety of ice-cream. You can find your favourite flavour in a completely new version. Worth visiting!
Out of the ordinary flavours, we had: passion fruit, banana lime, pineapple ginger and dragon fruit, strawberry & chilli. In general nice taste, subtle natural flavours. Watch out for the dragon fruit, strawberry with chilli, that one packed quite a punch, if spicy is not...More
I tried these flavors:
Strawberry with alcohol 7/10
Berries with alcohol 5/10
Peach with wine 7/10

The challenge, try to sample every flavour bet you cannot!!! We were there a week and made it our challenge to try them all. Helped that we were jut across the way at The Terme Olimpia hotel!
We visited a couple of the Fatamorgana locations during our trip to Rome and neither of them disappointed. A fantastic range of gluten free gelato choices (with all other allergens marked), and gluten free cones to match. So hard to choose as there are so...More

Yes..a hidden gem. This gelateria is at the end of unnoticeable streets, like a crossroad of winding undistinguished alleys, however once you find it and you are inside, the atmosphere around the area becomes very intimate and laid back romantic. It seems like a gathering spot...More

I don't understand the hype over this place, except perhaps the range of unorthodox flavours. I opted for the classics - Madagascar chocolate and pistachio - but found both to be disappointing. The chocolate was too sweet and the latter, while having bits of pistachio...More
Don't waste yourself on bad gelato. Fatamorgana is the real deal. So many flavors and such combinations it is hard to choose. Delicious!!!
They have a big variety in flavours , some of them are very unique , the staff was very kind and let us try some tastes in order to decide
We are staying around the corner from this lovely gelato shop so have had lots of chances to try out the ice cream. Top flavour so far is the basil, walnut and honey but the avocado, lime and white wine was a close second. Also...More

Conveniently across the path from our hotel. An amazing range of gelato. Just a shame we didn't have time to sample them all. Delicious. Thank you.
Great ice cream shop with lots of flavours - many vegan/dairy free options available to choose from.
Seriously the best gelato in Rome. The flavors are inventive and delicious! Especially enjoyed the pineapple ginger.
Best variety of high quality flavors in Rome. Worth the effort to search out. Try the banana lime and you won't be disappointed.
We read about this place in Frommers and saw other reviews and we were completely disappointed. The hours are short so you have to plan accordingly, although I’ll never go back. My son got chocolate that was a hard crunchy block which is not what...More
We went to both locations, one south of Piazza Navona was OK but the one near the Galleria Borghese was by far superior. Best strawberry and pistachio gelato I have ever tasted.
Litle shop with a big range of gelao . Its very good and tastes natural.
I will come back next time.
very interesting gelato flavors. some were a bit icy. in general good quality ingredients and good flavors!
We found this place while wandering on the neighborhood and we couldn’t be happier! They have flavors for every taste and they’re all delicious!
I have an industrious 12 year old son who decided to map out each and every Gelato shop of note in Rome. Fatamorgana was on that list and turned out to be the best tasting Gelato of every shop we visited (27 in total).

The best ice cream flavours imaginable. There are a lot of ice cream shops (as you can imagine) but this was the best one! And all gluten free! So all the cake flavours and cones are okay for coeliacs
Fatamorgana is a really nice place. They have all the ice cream classics you wish for and also great creations like rose with walnuts, rice and vanilla, mint and choclate. Plus nothing tastes processed.

We took a nice piece of ice cream after dinner. Line outside the place tells a lot about the quality and prices. Highly recommended
We had gelato here on our last day in Rome. They had a great selection of flavours. It was reasonably priced and delicious. The little square outside has a couple of benches and a wall to sit on while enjoying your gelato. Would definitely recommend.
Don't miss this amazing Gelato when you're in Rome! It's natural, organic, and have all sorts of inventive flavors.
The gelato here is so natural, and so yummy. I found gluten free, and dairy free gelato and it tasted oh so good!
Best gelato we had on our trip to Rome.
Do not leave Rome without trying it!
We particularly liked the coffee and raspberry tastes.
We loved the different flavors they served at this gelateria! And opposed to other ice creams you really tasted the flavors. We had flavors like cinnamon/apple/nuts and lychee and banana/sesame and almondmilk/mint/ginger. It’s also located in this pretty square in the Monti area

It had some great combinations of flavors that you wouldn't even think of. But i also ordered my favorite flavor which is 🍋 lemon and that's where i was disappointed because is wasn't smooth
This gelato is way overrated. First the girl serving us was very rude and the gelato was partially melted before she even scooped it in the cup. Was not impressed at all.
The queue that is consistently outside of this place speaks for itself. We were glad we stuck it out though as the gelato was amazing! Generous portions, interesting flavours and with a variety of additional toppings to choose from. Make sure you pick up plenty...More
They have some crazy flavors, like pecorino + chestnut honey + orange and black rice + rose hips. Highly recommend! Unfortunately, the service is not always good nor friendly.
Lovely flavours which proved popular with adults and children. Mango, coconut plus interesting twists on other flavours. Definitely one I would visit again.
Many unique flavour choices, but the gelato didn't live up to my expectations after reading so many amazing reviews. The scoops were very small and while the baklava flavour was good it didn't have the wow factor I was anticipating.
Delicious gelato! So many wonderful flavors, all fresh, organic ingredients are used. We ate gelato here everyday during our stay, sometimes twice! They also were able to accommodate my daughter's food allergies. Amazing place, don't miss it!
This was one authentic italian gelato experiences. Fresh, full of taste, organic, real taste of ingredients. It is a must while in Rome. Figs; avocado, lime & white wine; hazelnuts ; blackberry. Best of all SIX types of chocolate. Could do with more seats both inside and outside. For medio (2 scoops): €2.50.
Tonnes of vegan flavours, with allergens clearly labelled (for dairy, eggs, nuts and gluten). The price was good (similar to everywhere else in the area - 2.50 Euros for the standard size). My non-vegan husband loved the dairy ice-cream they served too!
